Ok so i am having bad luck with stock mirrors. They keep breaking on the housing, tried to add epoxy, prior to install of new mirrors and still end up being a weak point. Does anyone know where i can find some aftermarket mirrors, do not have to be electric. I know i can get them from toyota but do not wanna spend that much money right now. Thanks

They keep cracking at the base where the mirror bracket attaches to the mirror housing. bought some used ones and same thing happened. its a pain in the ass. Think just because they are 20 year old mirrors they are weak. so i am looking for some aftermarket ones for cheap. Bought some for an eclipse off ebay but they dont have any for the supra that i have seen.

I dont understand how your breaking them. Are you bumping into things with them? droping stuff on them?

Or for some weird reason are they just breaking off at the base as you drive?
If thats the case your either breaking them when you put them on, or they were cracked to begin with.

They are not overtightened or obstructed from sitting on the door how they are supposed, that was my first assumption. Not hitting them with anything, dropping bumping or anything like that, car isnt even running right now, waiting on turbo.

The first set i purchased used were cracked, minor hairline, so i epoxied prior to install to make sure they were good and strong. well they cracked and became loose farther down, where i did not glue. purchased another set of used but in better condition no cracks but heavily glued anyways to be safe than sorry. havent driven the car since install, open door and shut there it went loosened up pulled off and cracked!!!!! I dont think it is the glue, but guess it could be possible that the 20 year old plastic might be gettin weak from that along with the weight of them heavy bastards? Its actually plastic weld two part epoxy.

I am tired of buying used mirrors and cant afford to buy brand new at this time

on the base inside of mirror where bracket screws in. kinda hard to explain ill see if i can get a pic. i guess i just didnt trust the plastic after what happened on the first set. I guess ill call toyota tomorrow and see how much they are at my cost?

And the glue was in the area of the where the previous two pairs had cracked. And yes thats 2 pairs both mirrors are cracked in same spots pass and driver side.

i have a set of 89 mirrors ill sell you 40 for the pair they are white. no cracks in them (i would have to look to make sure). i went with the pre 89 mirrors i like the styling on those better they pull it closer to the car. i never had this problem and i even bumped mine a lot

This is actually very common, most folks just don't notice. Unfortunately, this is a stress point, so regular epoxy isn't going to cut it.

My plan is to rough up the area on the inside of the housing with a rasp, then add in fiberglass on top of that as a reinforcement. I'm betting that they'll never crack again after that.

Are pre 89 mirrors compatible? I was using plastic weld sorry for not clarifying that. I think the fiberglass thing might be in future plans.

Would they sell unpainted mirrors? like a primer or flat black? I didnt get a chance to ask them today.
