Well this was an old post but since I have been getting back to it I figured I would revive it. The sad part is I have not done much to my car, but I did get a body kit and installed it and did some other work. I have the led turn signals in it now, err kind of. The car is also getting some other pretty drastic changes including a fixed headlight conversion. The work has slowed again because I dont have any luck and the other day my air compressor in my shop went out, then while using my backup compressor the same day the backup went out. Then the next day my welder feed wheel stripped out, and my buffer disc ripped apart. So yea I am gonna need to buy some new tools and some parts for them.
As for the polishing I use 240 grit sand paper and a random orbital sander where I can and hand where the sander wont reach (this is a very labor intensive process). Then with that done I go back and wet sand with 400 grit. After that a soft polishing wheel with rogue compound, then finish it off with some mothers aluminum polish applied and worked in by hand. Now I have been a mechanic for 10 years so my hands are seasoned at long periods of heavy usage (dont take that out of context.
) and it was still very hard on the hands after sanding for hours on end day after day. Probably 20 hours on the intake alone. The valve covers are pretty easy as you can get to most of it with a random orbital sander.
So Im sure everyone wants to see some pics of the progress so here, I know its meager for being so long but I have been working full time, working on other peoples cars, and making games for Xbox 360 (plug).
This sucks this is a gap between the door and the side skirt, I had to fill it with mesh, studs, fiberglass, then a thin coat of bondo to get a finished surface.
