I have an 89 turbo parts car and i was going to swap it into my 88 will everything work fine or is there going to be some issues have any of you done this? my supra is auto now but will be swaping in the 5spd from the parts car this spring
of course, in that case, your tach will not function, as NA tachs aren't compatible with turbo igniters...
as for the auto vs 5 speed issue, you can swap in an auto tachometer and it'll be fine, unless you can live without knowing if you're in power mode or normal.
i can prolly live with the speedo being off a bit i wanted to use that parts cars rear end too i heard there was a diffrance in gearing between auto and manual trans..? then it should correct it self
Speedo gearing is the same between N/A and Turbo, and pre-89 and 89+, and between Supras and Corollas and Celicas and Camrys. It's always changed at the transmission, not the speedometer.
Since you are changing to 5-speed anyways, using the 89+ cluster makes most sense. The only issue you will have is the cruise light on the dash won't come on, as your car has the cruise light on the switch.
So gearing in the w58 and r154 is different? (240 km/h / 280 km/h speedos at least on Euro model) ?
And as we talk about clusters and I'm dismantling one turbo one - what does the box on the right side do? The left one has something to do with boost I guess...I don't have it on my N/A one.
