Hello all,
After awhile of having the supra, and all the problems the 7mgte was giving me i decided i wanted a change. Many nights i would research and research the possibilites and i have come to the conclusion of a 1jz. It suits my goals very well because i want a nice daily driver than can get up and go when it needs to, and the occasional track days. I picked up the 1J a few days ago from a local guy who had already wired it into his 91 supra. After closer inspection i realized i am missing a few parts and exposed wires that he joined are pretty hacked up, and i am trying to decide if i should un tape the harness to see what kind of a mess it is :3d_frown:. Both the turbo's have minor side to side play, they should be fine to use still though. I did notice that i am missing the coolant flange for the front turbo and am going to need to soure that out. The long coolant pipe that runs from the back turbo to ? also has a kink in it. The reason i am unsure of where it connects to is, i didnt pull it apart, the person i bought it from did. So please bear with me on some stuff that i have no clue where it conects to.

The 1jz is said to have Brian Crower 264 cams in it,(is it true, i am not sure). Also if anybody has pics of how the turbo coolant lines are ran that would help out greatly. i tried searching, but most all pics have the intake/intercooler pipes in the way, so it is hard to see where they go. Thanks!

Nice. How far are you into the swap? Could you also get a pic of the intake manifold side where all the vacuum lines are going? Thanks!

wiring will be a bit different. I just pull a 1j out of a 90 and dropped in a 89 and there was a differance in the body plugs. Well I guess it will depend on if it's a early or late 89. On mine the 90 had 4 body plugs and the 89 had 3. Is it a jza 70?

It is a late 89, but im not sure if the motor is a jza70 or the soarer one. Is there a way to tell? Could you take a picture of the plugs? Thanks!

Oh, alright, then i have the soarer ecu. There are 4 plugs left over when i plug the other 4 into the ecu, i will take a pic a little later, and pull my ecu and wiring out of the 89 and see how many there is (3 or 4). Thanks for the info!

well after looking at some of the wiring i noticed there was shrink wrap around electrical tape wich didnt make sense. With closer inspection i found out that the previous owner is shady and all the connectors were cut and then just shrink wrapped back on? Not really sure what i am going to do. Trying to find what these wires and plugs are for and go from there i guess. The first two plugs i noticed that were cut are but the ignitor plugs, both are grey, and both 6 pin plugs but one only has 5 wires while other has 6. Im guessing these were for the fuse box, but not positive(they were just in that area). Next all the body plugs are cut.:3d_frown: also how long should the harness be from the back of the block to the ecu plugs after it has been extended? I am not sure if it was extended or not :1zhelp:
any input on this?
Thanks!

Ok, here are some pictures of the plugs. The first two pics are of the 2 plugs I had mentioned earlier, that are located near the ignitor plugs. The two after that are of the body plugs.

I thing the one with the Orange gasket thing in side is the iscv. Not sure about the other I don't have my car here with me to check. The wires that are cut might not be used there are a lot of them that aren't gonna be used. Such as tems, abs, power steering,ac,cruise. It all depends on what they ran in the car it came off of. I had to rewire my abs, ps,ac,tems because I wanted to keep those. I know that there is a plug from the engine harness that isn't even used. If you look at the wiring diagrams you'll see a lot of wires are omited.

Thanks. Could you please post up some of these diagrams or links? Also, they are not for the a/c becuase that one was plugged in but im not running a/c. Also the iscv is hooked up with a plug already. Im not sure if these plugs even are supposed to be near this area, like i said there were no connections made, no wire colors match up, and were just shrink wrapped on. Im going to start looking for some more diagrams with color specific wires, and hopefully figure this out. Also how and where does the fuse box get wired in? Thanks!

Little update. Things just keep getting better and better with this :aigo: I pulled the valve covers off to see what kind of shape the cams are in, they look like they are in very good shape, but i didnt see any markings or stamping of them being Brian Crowers. I started sanding the valve covers to polish them, i think its going to look pretty good. Earlier today, i was going to put the front turbo on, so i pulled the rear off to bolt them together so they can go on as a unit. I pulled the y pipe off to check the exhaust side of the fins.:3d_frown::: angry :::aigo: All the fins excpet 1 are broke. I will deffinatly not bolt them back up, and i am searching for replacement twins right now. I aslo pulled the trans off to see if there was really a 6 puck in it like PO stated. It was not even a puck clutch, rather a full face. It does look new however, still disapointed. Getting pretty irritated with how much the PO had lied so far. Also i am missing 5 of the 6 coil plugs/connectors.

Hey I checked and that plug whith the orange gasket inside is to the iscv. I don't know what ecu that is but I do know it's not a jza70.

Looks good so far! lol

Isn't it amazing what previous owners will tell you? If you need a hand with it gimme a call We could work on it today or you could come up by me and work on my car. Originally I though you meant the harness was "looped" and taped back, thats how the are stock, but yours is obviously cut. I would have to see it to see if it is extended.
