Hey guys...

Pulling apart the brakes on a car that I just brought home... '87 all stock 5spd turbo car with every factory option and only 130k miles.. not too terrible for $800

The car had been sitting for 5+ years and the brakes are frozen. The fronts came apart easily enough however the rear are being a pain. I pulled the lower bolt and the caliper was stiff to twist up.. took a pry bar. The upper guide pin is so frozen in the caliper that its coming out of the bracket instead of the caliper.

Has anyone had this issue before? If so, what are my options? Track down different rear brackets and calipers?

Thanks
-Chris

Why not go buy loaded rear calipers. They come with caliper, caliper bracket, pads, shims, hardware. All slides have been redone. They usually cost $70-100 range.

At first I couldn't find any that came with brackets... but I finally located some for 65 each.

I was able to get the caliper off the slide finally but the bracket was damaged in the process.... found a set of brackets so I decided to order rebuild kits instead and go through them myself.

I was able to order all 4 kits, new soft lines and pads for less the $90 shipped. All the hard lines look to be in really good shape so not too worried about them. Sure beats paying 260 for just calipers.

I'm trying to put the car together as cheaply as possible while not cutting corners so I can get it on the road and put the engine/trans through its paces before spending any extra coin.

I did get it running.. no overheating... clean oil and coolant and no signs of bhg... no knocks or odd noises. Working on swapping fuel tanks now as the original was full of varnish and rust.. had a good one from an old parts car that I used to have.
