Hey everyone,
i have recently purchased a 87 Mk3 and after taking it for a test drive i instantly became attached. The 87 Pearl White Targa Supra had some recent work done to it, and the previous owner had redone the headgasket only 17 000km ago. After purchasing the car and driving it for a couple of weeks I heard a funny noise coming from the engine. I took it to my friend who is a mechanic and he told me that one of the valves was clicking. After blowing a headgasket myself, i decided to call the previous owner and inquire where the engine work had been done (Im not even going to mention where it was done because quite frankly im embarassed about where he took it!) After that I was talking to someone at the local JDM import shop and he convinced me to do a 1jz swap because i couldnt bear to drive the clicking 7mgte. So me and my mechanic picked up a front cut of a JZA70 supra and got to work. I am currently waiting on some parts (radiator, intercooler kit, downpipe and the list goes on) as i decided to do some work to the engine before slapping it back in. Should have the rest of the parts within 8 weeks (mishimoto is redesigning their mk3 radiator due to fitment issues? is what the shop tells me) I hope to have the car up and running this winter before it snows so I can test drive her! the only thing i am a little worried about is the wiring harness extension since my car is LHD. My buddy doesnt seem too concerned with it and the 5 wires he has extended already look very professional (soldered and heat-shrinked)I will post some pictures when i get my camera charged! :biglaugh:

Yeah let me know how that comes out. I may need to do that myself considering that i'm looking for a front clip also to get the best 1JZ possible with ALL the parts included. Where'd u get yours from and if you're going to open it up, how do the internals look? I hear some importers sell "low mileage" beat-up motors that host sludge parties!

Thanks rockpapersword that was a great bit of information. will definately be giving that a try! to the other question about where i got the motor from is a place called Mak customs in Lethbridge AB Canada. the engine was very clean on the outside, i am not going to pop the valve covers off to see what kind of sludge is in there. i also dont think it is possible to buy a front clip (or a motor for that fact) that is 100% clean and perfect. people buy these cars for the same reason we do, to drive them! i bought the front clip explecting to sink a bunch of money into it and have so far done these that i can think of:

-new rear main seal and rear main seal housing gasket
-machined flywheel and new ACT heavy duty clutch
-new timing belt / timing belt tensioner / idling pully
-new serpentine belt
-new radiator (waiting on part still)
-new intercooler kit (the one that came with the clip is fine i just wanted to upgrade)
-HKS adjustable cam gears (love the look of em!)

i am going to wait on any more performance parts until i actually get the engine in and running. the guy from the store (whom i have become quite friendly with while doing my swap) had actually drivin the JZA70 in japan before they cut and shipped it. still waiting for my buddy to bring the jump drive with the pictures on it over! i cant wait to show everyone im pretty excited
