87 5spd Turbo Chassis Harness

Can anyone tell me if the title is the proper name for the wiring loom that connects all the interior electrical points, windows, over head lamp, etc. I'm trying to purchase one for my 87 Supra, but can find one anywhere. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need Turbo or N/A? I have an 87 N/A harness, but I cut it where it goes through the firewall on the passenger side. It's a pretty involved harness, and not many people pull it when parting a car. It runs from the driver's front corner to the passenger front. Like I said, I cut the passenger part that runs through the fender off. I'd let this one go for $50 shipped as it is. You'd have to splice in your old one from there.

Otherwise, I'd hit up some of the part out threads, and see if you can find somebody willing to pull it.

Thanks ForcedTorque, but I would need the turbo harness ideally with all the clips.
Does anyone know if the harness is still available through Toyota?

Thanks, for the responses guys.

Teefoff00 I purchased the one suprasport is offering, but I have to believe their is another harness in our Supras. I guess I'm thinking like an F-body guy. There you had an "engine harness" that controlled all the stuff in front of the fire wall and they you had a "chassis/body harness" that controled all the interior stuff in the car like the radio, windows, dome light, speakers and anything else in the interior. I'm just having no luck finding one of these interior harnesses. I figure I could pull and replace, but at the current rate I can work on the car it would take me a year.

the body harness is split up into sub harnesses as far as I know. I know the dash has its own harness, and I believe everything in the rear of the car is on a sub harness as well.

Thanks pogpism9! Thats what I was wondering. Does anyone know what part numbers these sub harnesses are? Are they still available?

I have an NA dash harness in pretty good shape that came out of my 86.5 which is exactly the same as 87. Let me know if you want it.

This is almost correct. There is a main harness harness, which is what I assumed you were looking for. It is horseshoe shaped from the front corner on one side through the fender and into the fuse box, and then across the firewall connecting to all the stuff (A/C and heat parts, blower motor, etc), and then to the other fuse box, and then back out through the other fender and to the front. The dash itself has a sub-harness for everything on it. After that you have two sub-harnesses for the doors, and two for the rear of the car.

I am not sure if that is entirely correct. There is one of our radios that has different plugs than all the rest. It was my belief that that one was 86.5 only. I could be wrong though, it may have carried over to 87 or even 88.



OP.....Exactly what are you trying to accomplish?

BTW....I believe that Suprasport harness was an engine harness.

I'm up in CT and have an 87T i'm parting out. If you want to plan a day to drive up, i'd be willing to help you take it out of the car, or you could just take the whole shell off my hands for cheap. Let me know if you're interested.

My dash harness has the common radio plugs on it. It was spliced on by a previous owner, so it probably came with different plugs originally.

I'm with you on that second comment. What's he trying to accomplish?

First I'd like to say thanks for all the information.

I'm trying to to restore my 87 Turbo 5spd. To that goal. I'm trying to source all the hard to find parts to make my restoration as "smooth" as possible. I already have the engine harness, but as we all know the everything in the car is twenty plus years old. I was figuring since I was taking whole car apart, now would be the time to install as many new oem (or as close to new) wiring as I could find. That last thing I'd wanted to do after the car back together is to chase some electrical gremlin. lol.

Unless you've had a problem with mice, fire or a previous owner hack job, all the wiring behind the dash should be ok. It's been protected from the elements all these years. When I swapped bodyharnesses from my 87T to my 86.5 NA (did it for supermonitor) all the wires were in good shape and still soft. There were no issues there. I think you may be worrying for nothing. If you take your dash out just inspect the big harness that runs from the fuse panel to the other side of the car. If it looks fine it most likely is. Electrical problems because of that are very rare and would most likely be caused from an owner messing with it.

Thanks gtsfirefighter! You really put my mind at ease. That's something less I have to worry about. How did the Supermonitor work out. I've thought about installing one, how complicated is it? Is it truely plug and play if your have the underdash plug?

If you already have the plug then yes, it is plug and play. I did the swap so I could have the plug. My 87T did not have a SM but was already wired for it. Your 87T most likely has the plug too. It'll be above the break pedal. It's a white-ish, yellow looking plug that's about 2-3 inches long. If you have, it should take no more than 45 minutes to install the SM computer and display.
