So me and my buddy are switching everything from one car, to another, and doing a "resto" on the car in the process.... more pics, eventually, than you can shake a stick at!

A little bit of history about the car, not that anyone cares....
I bought the car from, believe it or not, they guy that put the windsheild in my 82... he said the coil pack was bad, and the motor had just been rebuilt, so... having the extra coil, I went and picked it up, I think I payed.... $450 for it or something. So I let the car sit for.... 2 months or so before I screwed with it... those 84+ coil-packs are like $500 from Toyota, and I couldn't find one used anywhere... so I one day got fed up, checked all the wiring and stuck the coil in and she fired up.... Holy crapp...... talk about a loud ass knock..... Anyway, engine WAS rebuilt, there just weren't any bearings in it, at all..... SO, I did the JDM thing, upgraded to the 6m and went on from there. Drove the car for.... I dunno, 3-4 months, until the heater went out, o around January, fixed the heater core, had the dash all ripped out, got sooo pissed with the stupid heater, and after replacing the fuel pump, then the tank because somehow it got a tiny hole in it, got REALLY crappy mileage for whatever reason so I pulled the motor out and bought the 85 (in sig) from Jon at MDC (stopped and asked about it, and have had to put up w/ his crapp since :biglaugh: ) put the motor in that car, drove the 85 for... lets say.... 3 months, Sold the 85, and now we're to the present.

If you're still reading, awesome, I have an audience still. Anyway, on with the story... So basically the car has been sitting forever *6months or so* Dad's getting pissed so I put it up for sale... no bites... at all... I even lowered the price to FREE, still nothing. So, I talked to some people about it... Grant wanted it and after Chi2k5, my buddy wanted it. It's pretty much the perfect project car. It's at my house and it's free... and the body is in damn good shape, what more could ya ask for? Anyway, we've spent about.... 10 hours on it so far and I've almost got this project caught up...

Day 1 - The Chaos begins...
Basically we spend an even stripping the inside of the car, nothings left in the car except what we thought was good enough to be possibly used on the car... An entire red interior that was in pretty damn good shape TRASHED, thrown on a giant pile of crapp and BURNED, Why? Because if nobody wanted the car, aint NOBODY gonna want the interior... 2 perfect L-type seats up in smoke! Man that was a sad night for me. Anyway, thats about all that got done, we also found out that there was a little more rust than we though, nothing serious, just some rust that we'll have to take care of... Here's the pics from day 1...

*This was filled with engine parts, 4 intakes, and 2 sets of fender flares.... it was awesome!*

*EDIT*

Man, the pic of the dash completely stripped needs a tag over it that says "OWNED". Hehe

Looks like you have a good start on your rebuild/refresh. Have fun!

Just to clarify,

THE 82 IS GETTING THE 7M

Update on the car later tonight, maybe...

Day 2 - Engine Bay Day 1

Wooo... Day 2 started out late, didn't hit the garage until about 2-ish. So after getting the car over to the garage and getting motivated we finally got to pulling the engine... No one is going to believe this but the two of us got the motor, tranny, and harness out in under 35 mins. I guess when between the two of us we got ATLEAST 10 pulls behind us, it helps out a lot. Now that we learned the art of harness pulling (through the firewall) things go a LOT easier also. Anyway, after we got the engine/trans pulled (notice its a weak-ass auto) We got to disassembling the engine bay. I told my buddy I would help him for free (and he has to help me w/ the 7m swap) provided he did things RIGHT and didn't take any ricer shortcuts. So after getting all the bits and peices out that we felt comfortable w/ at the time (more will eventually come out) we pressure washed the bay.... I think we went over it about 5 times, soaking it and hitting with about 1800 psi it came out looking pretty good, Yes, the car used to be Goldish... However we noticed a lot of the parts were White (fender and the front support) so after we got to looking, and it was obvious, the frame rail isn't exactly perfect, but we figure it'll work good enough. This is pretty much all that we got done for the day, and we finally got the stupid carpet out... Toyota and their crappy under-car welded-on nuts...

More pics...

And for Drunk Medic.....

Be nice, that took me 3 whole minutes...

Day 3 - Getting ready to beging assembly.
Today got off to a late start, again, because "some people have to work".... so around 5:30-ish Jason comes cruisin by.... So after deciding what to do, I get to shooting the bottom section of the engine bay black, while he cleans the carpet, not a terribly exciting day, but I was covered in slag from my waist up. If anyone hasn't used slag, it's the best thing for getting that old nasty rust-infested crapp off... it's like sand blasting, but with metal! So after the Slag I went over the sections I did with some sand paper, got it relatively smooth, wiped it down, and went to town. While I was doing that Jason was cleaning the carpet, they were pretty much nasty.... Slow day, but this is stuff that had to be done...

More pics...

Oh, btw, that rack is getting swapped, thats why it wasn't removed, or atleast taped around....

Well, it's not a JC write-up, but I'm doing the best I can....

BTW, jason, I stopped and asked about paint today, $30-40 for 2 spray bombs.... I say we just get 1/2 a gallon and go to town with the "real stuff"...

We finally started painting.... damn what a color! It's gonna look so bad-ass next to my ol' 82.... even better cruising down the road together.... This is probably the best investment of my time in a LONG time... This is also going a lot better than the mkIII project... Jason pointed out to me that the 7m has 4 valves per cylinder (which I knew) and the releifs on the 5m pistons are only for 2... so basically I'm screwed... I was thinking about just using a 5m crank w/ the 7m pistons/rods, and getting new rods and mains, and maybe some new rings.... completely different thread though....... Anyway Jason is on his way home to upload the pics for me.... Only did the engine bay, but it looks sooo nice, especially for two people who have never painted a car (or anything else for that matter). Anyway, the pics will speak for themselves I guess...

I'll Update shortly.... :icon_bigg
