So I have been Wiring up my Apexi SAFC2 for the past couple of days.
All the pictures have been taken from the Apexi Model Specific Installation Guide that you can download for FREE here---> Full Install Guide
Now because there is ALOT of information in that guide that does not pertain to us Supra Folk, I have taken the excerpts that DO apply, and pasted them neatly here so you dont have to constantly scroll from page 7 to page 16 to page 5 to page 16 and back again.
This will also serve as a question Thread for installation of this Apexi product. I have a few questions myself and will be posting them in additional comments in this thread. Other questions with the APEXI SAFC2 INSTALLATION GUIDE charts that are shown right here in this How-To, will be placed here in this post so everyone can see those particular things I am not understanding while reading and seeing them in the guide.
THESE PICTURES REPRESENT INSTALL ON A 1989 7mgte ONLY,
there are other diagrams specifically for other years of the Toyota Supra.
1. First off- A chart showing the model, engine model, years applicable, where the computer position is on our car (behind glove box is D) What wire diagram we will be using, and what type of sensor (Don't know which sensor it refers to?) our Supra's use.
SENSOR IDENTIFICATION-
Example PR-3
PR is sensor Type, and 3 is sensor # (not sure what sensor # means)
SENSOR CHART IDENTIFICATION
HW= Hotwire Sensor
PR= Pressure Sensor
FL= Flap Sensor
KR= Karman Sensor
2. Now that you see we have a KARMAN type sensor, this is a general guide showing what COLOR wire (from the SAFC2) attaches to what NAMED wire, in our 1989 7MGTE car. Take special note of the Airflow input and output wires. ALSO see the ground wires. The brown wire MUST be closer to the ECU than the black to read voltage. Space them no closer than an Inch
3 Locate your ECU by removing your glove box. After that is removed it is the silver box on the left.
SPECIAL NOTE Our computers are flipped upside down under the dash!! Please make sure to unscrew the ECU and rotate it so it matches the following picture- sticker side up!!
4. Referring back to the original chart, we will need to look at Terminal Drawing T5-A which I have shown here. It shows what positions the above mentioned in step 2 wires are in, in our wiring harness ECU plug. (Some of you with 7mgte's older than manufacture date of October 1988 will be looking at drawing T2B)
5 Now match the colored Wires from STEP 2 to the labeled and identified wires in STEP4 after you flip your ECU over in step3 :biglaugh:
However! there is something special Notice we only have one knock sensor wire on the SAFC2 but we have 2 knock sensor wires on our ECU? Here is a diagram explaining which ECU knock wire the SAFC2 purple knock wire should be connected to. (note you connect these at the VERY END, after EVERYTHING ELSE IS DONE)
That is the end of what I know and understand, I hope this helps. I will now post my questions about things Ive come across in the next comment below.
