I wanted to wait before posting my build Q's, but got a warning that I said i could be dropped for not posting.

I picked up my 1st MkIII the first of May, it is an '87 Targa 5-spd w/ a sun bearing. My plans are either to simply rebuild the engine resto the interior, fender dent and cracked windshield and sell it, or do a power rebuild and keep the car as another toy.

If I decide to keep the car(not sure until I get the engine out and torn down). I would like to do a power build in the area of 450 rwhp. However since the car will be used for weekend drives through the mountain and river canyons in my area, I am not looking at simply bolting on a larger turbo for higher end gains. With the car as heavy as it is I am thinking I would want my gains to be on the low end, sub 3000rpms. I have found with my Toyota trucks mods to increase low end power have been the most beneficial in terms of performance, like the Supra the trucks are also heavy.

Since my only experience with the Supra was from test driving TT MKIV's back in the '90's(when I was considering buying one), I have no reference point for the MKIII single turbo. What is the performance like taking off from a stop, or throttling out of corners? Is there a lot of turbo lag w/the stock turbo?

Some more Q's:
Is it possible to run dual turbo's on a 7mgte?
Is it possible to piggy back a low end turbo with the stock turbo?
Will the stock injectors and fuel pump meet the fuel demands of 450rwhp, if not how much Hp will they support?
I had considered boring the block out to .040. is this too much, should I even bother with enlarging the cyls?

I have been customizing/restoring Toyota 4x's and 2x's for a long time now, and in the beginning I spent a money on items that really wasn't needed and would like to avoid that with this rebuild.

I would like the members input here on how they would go about rebuilding to gain the hp I am looking for and the use I plan for the car. Or would I be better served simply restoring the '87, sell it, and look for a TT MKIII?

the stock turbo hits full boost pretty early, around 2200-2300rpms. so theres no lag really. as for the fuel system, if you want 450hp then you'll def have to get at least some 550cc and you will need a high flow fuel pump. as for boring the block, i don't think that adds any power to 7m's. as for your other questions i'm not so sure. others will chime in though.

Yeah dont worry about lag. Mods that will increase high end horsepower will also reduce spool time, For instance, downpipe, exhaust and intercooler will reduce spool time

this link is good for general performance issues:

I'd look at upgraded suspension and brakes.. ie coilovers, swaybars, bushings, etc. if you want it to handle better in the mts.
once they're dialed in, MkIII's handle quite well for a luxocruiser imho. gl.

Good to hear.

I had originally considered doing an air bag suspension swap, but the $2k price tag seems a bit much at this time for what I want to spend on the car, so I am now looking into using lowering springs instead.

Will swapping out the rubber bushings for poly with the sway bars be all I need to do, or should I just buy thicker sway bars? The poly ones stiffened up my 4x4 enough that it stays almost flat in hard cornering.

A break upgrade would also come later on in the build.

Other than having the heads and block checked, it appears that I really don't have to do much other than a rebuild to have a platform to build off of to generate the HP I am looking for.

Looking at the link, is there any HP gain #'s to go along with the Stages? What kind of price tag am I looking at for stages 1-3?
The MHG and ARP studs will be part of the rebuild cost, as well as a DIY exhaust and a cold air intake system.
