Well, long story but an old friend of mine called me up and asked if I could get an auto tranny for a 280z. I said let me make some phone calls. Come to find out, another friend of mine still had his Z parked out in the back pasture. He said he is moving and that the new owners of the house were asking if he would get rid of it before he moved. He said if I wanted it, its mine for free, the only reason he parked it was he had torn down the topend and lost some parts and didnt ever buy the parts to fix it. The tranny was still good when he parked it a couple of months ago so I was thinking I would sell the tranny out of it and install it in my other friends Z, he offered $350 for the whole job... So potentially, 350 bucks to swap out a tranny. Now I know I could sell the old L28 for pocket change but that leaves me a shell with decent interior... I have owned two 280z's before, one v8 conversion(307 or a 327, cant remember/th350) and one l28/5spd. My little cousin needs a car for high school and I have been contemplating either sr20det, rb25det, or possibly the 7mgte.... Knowing my little cous, I think the sr20 would be better on the gas, rb would be SICK but parts would be a pain, 7m is pretty common and can be gotten for cheap... Regardless, my cous is gonna have one sweet Z when Im finished.

ohh yeah, before he parked it, he spent $450 in the rear. I helped him put in tokico struts, poly everything, I cant remember if we put springs on it or not. But its ready for some hp. Yeah, he is a good kid, he was taught how to fly an airplane at the age of 8, first flew w/ instructor when he was 11, hes 14 now, and honestly, if he can handle a $70K Cessna, he can handle 250rwhp IMO.

of course he will be given proper instruction(cough, me) when he is ready. Im not really worried if he wrecks it, aslong as the drivetrain is good, I can find another shell for 100 bucks all day long. When I worked for vautozone(I typed that right), I saw three Z's parked in peoples driveways rotting away in my commute. Infact, my second Z I bought off of a guy that had it parked in his front yard, I was actually looking for a shell for my v8 Z project, anyways, 200 bucks, the only prob was the motor was froze, rebuilt it for 800 bucks and ran like a top till I sold it. I would definately consider installing a cage this go around. I actually wrecked that Z and peiced it back together with my parts from my v8 Z(freebie!) Took 4 hours to swap all the parts.

I wasn't really worried about your car... It's your cousin.
