I've had this question for a while now, what does 7mgte mean I know it's a turbo version of the 7mge but what does mge stand for?

M is the engine code. G means it has Toyota's performance oriented valve angle with a dohc setup. E means efi

7 -> 7th generation
M -> Block designation
G -> DOHC Wide angle. (F for the narrower angle, as in the 1UZ-FE Generally considered more of an economy DOHC setup. This is skipped for single cam.)
T -> Turbo. (Z for supercharged, as in the 4A-GZE supercharged engine for the 1st gen MR2)
E -> Electronic Fuel Injection. Omitted for carburated engines while Toyota still made those.

F and G are both twin cam. The F head has one cam gear and and a two gears inside the valve cover so they both rotate. The G head has two cam gears and are then time independent of each other. And one other thing, the 1MZFE head in the late 90's Camry easily outflows the 1JZ and 2JZ heads. Just wanted to pass that along to all those that jacked up their radiator cap...

Still, the F and G have different valve angles. I would have to assume they change the way the air/fuel mix tumbles, a certain way makes more power, and a different way makes it more fuel efficient. But I'm talking out of my ass here.

...except that the 1ZZ-FE has a gear on each cam under the timing cover, just like the 2ZZ-GE.
