Hey everyone, I've been a lurker here for a while, never had much reason to post. I traded a motorcycle for a '90 7mge supra last november because I had 2 bikes and no car :icon_bigg

Anyways, midway through December the headgasket blew, so it's been a long cold winter rebuilding the motor in an uninsulated garage.

I have the motor rebuilt and put back in the car but I can't get the motor to start?
I've ran the error codes and came back knock sensor and starter.

I have the starter wired straight to the battery because the ignition switch is bad, and the knock sensor is broken at the plastic piece on it.

My question is, would the knock sensor cause the motor to not start?

I got it to start earlier today but it idled erratically and stalled out, now it won't start at all.

I've doubled check the firing ordered as well

NO, the knock sensor has nothing to do with the engine not starting, Knock sensor is basically a microphone that reads the vibrations of the engine. It'll start but itll retard your engine & all you have to do is give it gas until it stabilizes. Get your ignition switch fixed, that will always be a problem until you get it fixed & is the timing correct?

How do you have the starter just wired to the battery. It always has a + from the bat but the signal is only used when cranking.

You got code 52 and what else?

I unplugged the plug that goes into the starter, I have a wire going from the positive bat terminal and a wire going from the starter, I tap them together to start it. It's pretty ghetto but I haven't had a chance to fix it proper yet.

I haven't check the timing yet as I don't know how to, my brother helped me rebuild it, he's a mechanic. He put on the front of the motor and set the timing belt.

I'm getting code 43 and 52

I have double checked all connections on the harness, double checked firing order, wires and plugs are good, as is dist cap and rotor, coil is good.

Only questionable conclusions I can come to are, ignition timing, or the knock sensor

I am not sure what it is called but my father (he's a tech) has a gun looking thing that flashes light, & theres this hook like box that goes on spark plug cable #1... ive been trying to learn how to use it & he never teaches me, just ignores me... -_-

Code 43 is saying there is no Starter signal to the ECU. That could possibly be the problem of why it doesn't start & if In the end if it isn't, It's still a problem. Also have you done a compression test? Get new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, & i assume you have a distributor? well get a new cap & rotor. When i was ready to start my GTE one spark plug cable was completely shot, the rest were burnt, bought new ones got timing straight & viola! 2K miles now & running good. & yes i believe its your timing as well, just because timing belt is installed correctly doesn't mean much, you have to move the distributor to the correct position.
