WTF is that supposed to mean? If you're asking if all 7M-GE's came with a W58, then no. Don't forget the autos. If you're asking about factory 5 spd, yes. If you're looking at a car you might be buying that's advertised as having a R154, well, it might be a swap....

So, no, it's not as simple as that unless you'd care to clarify a little.

This sucks. Ok, how long could i run 400rwhp on a w58 before it blows up?

Might suck, but being a little more specific is what it takes to get you an answer that's actually worth a damn. Sorry to dissappoint. :3d_frown:

I agree with HellsLegion, the first thing that's going to go will be your clutch. Get that nailed down, the tranny *could* last a while, that depends on the driver. If you're gonna drop in a 4 puck clutch and pound on it like every traffic light is the light at the local drag strip I wouldn't give it more than a couple months.

There have been some N/A-T and GTE conversion owners who've made them last quite a while between 300 and 350.

Plenty of rotaries use them as well as old school V8 boys, seen as much as 600rwhp from rotary boys, in dedicated drag cars.

but the limit in mk3s is seen between 300-400hp, if not properly modified. if you beef everything up then yes, you could make it last a while.

Let me be more specific. I want the tranny to last me at least 1 year. What would be neccessary to do to make that happen in a w58.

I dont know what "beef it all up" means either.

Don't beat the piss out of it and it'll hold the power for a year.
Banging gears and clutch kicking will destroy it in short order. Not to mention a harsh clutch that will chatter.

yes:withstupi get a strong, smooth engaging clutch, dont drive like an a-hole, and you may be able to get some decent mileage out of it.. This is also dependant on how many miles were on the gearbox to start with.
p.s... you should be more concerned with the torque and not hp capabilities of the tranny..

What is a DR

I wont be banging any gears ever. And what brand/model clutches will hold 500+pounds of torque and still be smooth

DR = drag radials and they are a good way to kill a tranny/lsd if you arent smart. i suggest you check out the different vendors for clutch options as most hihp guys are using the r154. maybe check the parts review section for more help

That brings my next question. What is the largest size tire i should run to and be able to launch without smashing my w58 apart?

i think ive seen someone with 305/?/19 or sum bs like that on SF.
so your draggin with a w58, why not go for R154?
just wondering since the 154 is more beefier.
good luck finding a clutch that will hold 500+ TQ and hold it for a year.

i'm pushing 300+rwhp through my w58 with a clutchmasters stage 3 carbon kevlar full face disk, mated to a fidanza 11lb flywheel. no complaints thus far, but i'm not going to guarantee that it's going to last, either. ;) i've got 275/40/r17 falken azenis rt-615's on the back. (255's in the front)
