They are the same pump.

Realy? Thank god. I have been so worried since my rebuild because I used a newer pump off my N/A motor. Then I read somewhere that the werent the same and I was just picturing rodknock all over again from a weak pump.

You can, but it won't help.
The relief doesn't open until 40 psi, so any time you have less than 40 psi now, you will still have less than 40 psi after shimming. Shimming only helps @ high RPM.
Jonez, I heard that new pumps are all GTE. this could be misinfo, but worth looking into.

Dr. J, i see that the drive gears have a different height, but is the number of teeth/radius the same? i dont see how the height of the drive gear would affect the output of the pump.

Damn! So I guess when I get a chance I should check if its a turbo or N/A pump.

If this is true then its a good chance I have one from the gte

Yes, it's all about the gear height, not teeth count or anything like that on the 7M pumps.

NA is shorter.

Has less flow per the same engine rpm.

Actually looked at making a custom pump, using two sets of gears. the shaft should hold up to turning them. Only problem is you have to pin the new drive gear to the old, and the new idler gear would be supported by the custom top cap. (We thought about making a spacer that would add the extra space to hold the extra set of gears. Problem is you either replace the idler gear shaft with a new longer one (best option, and add a relief in the top cap to help stablize it.) or you attach another idler gear shaft to the top cap.

In the end, decided not to do this for a few reasons.
1) The oil pump drive shaft coming off the cam belt is pretty thin when your running a stroker with pauter rods. (Had to turn it down to clear the rods.)
2) The bronze drive gear is a unknown when turning two sets of pump gears.

We were not sure it would hold up, and I did not want to have either fail and lose a motor due to some R&D project when I was pretty sure a good new 7MGTE pump would work fine.
