i know that this has been talked about alot. but i wanted to see how many people are running headers such as obx and pacesetter. and if they notice any gains and if it is worth it. also i have heard there has to be some modification just wondering what you had to do. i want to put some on mine and just want to hear from some other N/A guys. thanks

I have Pacesetters, had to open up some of the mounting holes and grind a little on one end to clear something if I remember right. The collector had to be welded on the runners. I thought the placement of the O-2 bung was a little far downstream.

Gains??? thought I had noticed a little more bottom end, I thought some one had dynoed before and after and maybe 7-8 HP.

im sorry but im not exactly what the collector is. i though it connected right at the cat. i found some obx headers and the 0-2 sensor is at the end of the second pipe like the pacesetter. did you jsut extend the wire?

I run Pacesetters and tried them with the engine in various configurations. (I was bored and had time) On a stock engine I noticed no performance gain, though it did sound a lot meaner. With cams there was a noticeable difference in acceleration. After boosting compression and porting the head the difference between stock manifold and headers was more noticeable. The difference was never major but in my opinion worth it when used with other mods. If I had it to do over again I would definitely move the O2 sensor bung. Even with a wideband it's just an awkward place to have it.

Ninja edit: bear in mind this was not on a dyno so all results are seat of the pants.

this may be a stupid question but do you have to buy a seperate 02 sensor such as a wideband to extend the wire to the end of the collector. or is there a different way such as splicing into it

I ended up buying a new O-2 sensor and it was a generic one with a wire attached that I soldered to the stock wire.

I aggree with benchwarmer, they and any other mods work better, cams, P-n-P, etc. I do remember somebody posting a small gain over stock, 5-7 hp. Probably not feel it too much, it will be louder though.

well i got my obx headers the other day and finally got to put them on. took about 4 hours to do because i had to do some customizing. the end towards the front was hitting the distributor mount so i took it back off to see the different measurement. well it had about 1/4 more material there than it should so i had to cut the excess off so that it would get pass the mount and grid till it fit perfectly. also had the cut some at the bottom of the header so that the collector would connect evenly. then had to do the usual extension of the the O2 sensor. over all had a good time doing it makes it look alot beter than a rusty old one. and can truly notice a difference at low and top end and exhaust tone. glad i did it. but it was def not a direct bolt up!!! so if yall get one be ready to do a little cutting and other things.

^ im thinking about going with the OBX header and extending the o2 sensor wire. After you got the header installed did your check engine light come? on or did you experience any problems?

Thanks

Another idea for the 02 sensor would ne to take the wires out of the harness and shorten them and have them come out like where the heater valve wires come out kinda by the hole in the firewall for the harness. Might clean it up just a tad as well.

Even if you didnt want to cut into the harness you could just pull the connector out just enough and leave all the slack in the harness.

the little bit i can contribute...i've had the powder coated pacesetter headers for about 5 years. They are a little lighter than stock manifold and sure they sound nice, but they do get pretty hot. (yeah, i know its exhaust..lol) but i put a laser temp gauge on them at multiple points....ranging in the 350 degree area. Sitting just below the intake, i'll be wrapping them or putting on a header blanket or shields to spill off some of that heat. good luck

Is the header painted or polished? and how much would you take for it?

i bought polished OBX racing headers for my 87 before i desided to go NAT and when i attached them to the head they bolted up fine. only thing i noticed is the O2 sensor is in the wrong place. then engine is torn down and i never used them just bolted them up to make sure they fit. hope this helps.

ive been in a constant battle with my obx it always seems to leak at the collector piping...

i took some easy seal clamps and put the collector on mine and it fixed it right up
