I noticed before doing my HG a few months ago that my coolant passages had alot of pits and chips in the corners around the passages.

Where are some good vendors for our heads IE: new or rebuilt etc.

Mine had lots of chips, corrosion, etc, it was actually to the point of coolant leaking into the cylinders because it was soo corroded... When I had my head rebuilt, the machine shop welded the corrosion up for $75, and it looked really good afterward... Haven't had any problems yet.

Interesting im wondering how much they would charge to do a full rebuild. What exactly is entitled in a full rebuild usually?

I imagine im going to need new valve seals and i def am going to need to have the head welded and reground or w/e.

You may be able to remove the pitting when the head is decked...depends on how deep. Just compensate for the thickness removed with a thicker MHG...Cometic will make almost any thinkness you would need.

Head Job:
- Decking (kinda goes unsaid)
- 3 angle valve at minimum
- New seals
- Check valve guides (usually don't have to be replaced)
- Check valve spring compression specs...replace if necessary
- Check cam journals for scoring...may need to be replaced
- Make sure the cam retainers are torqued properly...do a check yourself!
- Optional gasket match port/polish on both the intake & exhaust sides. There is a lot of material removed on the exhaust side when doing this...runs the expense up quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of excessive material removal close it to the valves...blending in from the gasket match with a good polish is good enough on this head for over 500 HP.
