Hey! I recently swapped in a rebuilt GTE into my non turbo car. I'm using the non turbo trans as I was told by many it was okay. However, the non turbo clutch, which was new by the way, is not holding up good. It slips under boost sometimes, and if i shift too fast between first and second, it slips really badly. I have to give it a second to grab before I go again. It's pretty depressing and I need to get it swapped. I did have my flywheel cut but Im sure its prolly glazed by now from it slipping so much. One day it was really bad and was smoking.

Anyways, what is a good decently priced clutch kit I can get that works really well with the turbo motor and non turbo trans? Brand and model if you can. Im really at a loss. I am running 6psi but soon 9psi (I hope) but nothing higher for now so nothing crazy. I just watch a good reliable clutch that grabs REALLY good and quick and can handle a tiny bit of "abuse" if you wanna call it that. Thanks for any help!

I run Competition Clutch Stage 2. Full face clutch disc with advertised 80% increase in torque holding. It holds ~10-11 psi just fine for me. Same situation as you. 7MGTE, w58. If you are planning on running any more than about 12 lbs of boost, you'll be testing the limits of the w58 and may want to reconsider the R154. There are a couple other brands that offer similar full face, improved holding over stock replacements. I have about 13k miles and 1 year on mine and I boost daily. :D

If you plan on staying below 12 lbs or so and have a good w58 tranny, then enjoy the buttery smooth feeling of the w58 with all the fun of good solid boost. :)

Oh, and as a personal note, IMO, you're a fool to get a clutch any stronger than this one. You dont need a clutch that can hold more power than your transmission. The clutch is SUPPOSED to be weaker. Dont waste your money on a clutch that will hold while the transmission gives out. ;) The full face design means it can still engage like a regular clutch and slips like normal which means you DONT look like a moron in parking lots and on steep hills. ;)

yes your best bet would be get a R154. Spend the extra 400-500 for the transmission and you will be good. W58 is not good for performance use but has proven with proper building and such.

Im making 375hp/ 390 ft lbs on a 7mge spec stage 3 6 puck clutch on my w58 without a problem at all! Wouldn't say I drive it easy but I also have no way of launching with any boost.
