7M-GTE vs. 1JZ-GTE

Assuming we're starting with a 7M-GTE with a kinda tired stock turbo, would it make more sense to do a total turbo upgrade, including fmic, turbo, downpipe etc. the whole shebang, or just buy a 1JZ-GTTE? They are damn cheap on eBay, like 1,300 shipped:icon_surp

The car is an '87 with 7M-GTE and 5spd. The reason I ask is because I'll be getting it in a trade for my car, and with it I'll get a turbo kit and some money. If I could get him to pay money instead of the turbo kit, would that make sense? I think it's a GReddy t67 and other stuff, and I think he can get it for about 2grand.

You have alot of homework to do, just cause you can buy the 1j on ebay for cheap doesn't mean its going to be cheap.


Use the search button on what you think would be something you would like to do. Its alot of work for both and time & $$ are important.

Agreed you have alot of work ahead of you our best recommendation on this forums is to search search search and if all else fails search again then ask the question if your still empty handed.

i'd be careful of a jz on ebay for cheap. Probably better off learning the inner workings of your engine then getting the 1jz after you really learn how to deal with it. What I am trying right now to really understand the 7M-GTE and then I would love a 1jz in the future!

dont forget after the engine you still need a bell housing, ecu, harness, ic and pipes, motors mounts, and then some
