Alright, so bought this 1991 red manual turbo targa top back in July, drove it for 3 months then BHG, I did a LOT of thinking and reading and decided i'd be better off swapping a 1jz.

I pulled the 7m and r154 back in the fall and everything sat in the garage until i got the phone call from Accelerated Performance that the new engine/trans came in (a week ago). So now i'm trying to figure out what to do to this engine before it goes in, what i should replace for maintenance, and what i need to replace for the swap in general, heres what i've come up with.

Would you recommend i do anything else while i have the engine out? should i replace any seals? crank seals while i'm at it? Please let me know if im forgetting anything or if you have any advice! Thank you very much for your input!

Driftmotion:
2jz waterpump
2jz aluminum pulley kit
oil pressure sender adapter hose
1jz power steering pressure hose
mkIII 1jz intercooler kit (for stock twins) 4" core

Toyota parts:
r154 release cylinder boot
pcv hose
coolant return from turbos rubber hose
^i damaged mine on removal^
2jz serpentine belt
1jz timing belt

Other items:
ACT HD full disk clutch

So does this list seem complete? the oil pressure sender hose and PS pressure hose are on the list because i read about needing them in the 1jz swap section, are the driftmotion items the correct ones for the swap? Are there any additional items you think i would need? I already have electric fans from the 7m and i already have the ebay y pipe/down pipe.

This is where i am now, i need to get a 10mm allen wrench to remove the tensioner pulley, then i'll be able to pull the water pump.

Nice Build, moar of that hottie! :)

You should definately buy the 1JZ gasket set from DM, do every seal and gasket while the motor is out.

Alright, so far here's what i've ordered, should be in in the next few days. My local Toyota dealer had outrageous prices so i ordered everything through toyotapartseast.

Code:
2jz water pump 16100-49847
pulley nuts 90179-08201
release cylinder boot 31476‑22010
2jz serpentine belt 90916-A2007
1jz timing belt 13568-49025
2jz throttle cable 78180-1b090
Turbo oil in 15471‑88380
turbo water pipe 16347‑88380
Nut turbo flange 90179-10094

Drift motion aluminum pulley set

I have not ordered these items yet, i am unable to find some of them. How do i go about ordering parts that my dealer can't get? I really need the ventilation hose (cracked it upon removal) the rest are gaskets that i don't think i actually need.

Code:
front seal 90311-46001
rear seal 90311-90006
2jz water pump pulley 16371-46020
ventilation hose 12263‑88401
turbo oil outlet 15491‑88401
turbo oil outlet 2 15492‑88401
water outlet housing 16343‑88400
water inlet housing2 16325‑46010
water inlet housing1 16325‑62010
air tube 17376‑88400
air tube 2 17377‑88400

Oil pressure gauge: Am I doing it right?

My supra came with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, it had a pipe fitting attatched to the side of the block with i believe a 1/8" tube running through the dash and into the back of the gauge. From what i understand, the 7mgte has a different sort of pressure gauge? It uses a pressure sensor, then sends an electrical signal to the gauge at the dash, correct? Now, I've read that if i want to use an oil pressure gauge on the 1jz, you have to switch out the 1jz level sensor for the 7m oil pressure sender. Now, my aftermarket gauge doesn't fit where the 1jz level sensor was, but, i think i found a spot to tap into? Please let me know if i did this correctly!

I found this peculiar looking screw in the block next to the oil pump

197564_1839753907415_1047567115_2137164_6581276_n.jpg

A little closer

190762_1839753587407_1047567115_2137162_3329547_n.jpg

The grub screw i removed next to my 7m pressure gauge fitting

197847_1839753827413_1047567115_2137163_849915_n.jpg

And it seems to fit! ok, so did I do that correctly?

Wire harness:

So, i want to make my own patch harnesses so that i can leave BOTH the 1jz and 7mgte harnesses untouched, I really don't want the mess of cutting into a perfectly good harness, i'd rather adapt it so that i can always reset it to factory conditions, if i ever want to sell anything. Also, I can tap into the patch harness to install other electronics, such as a safc.

So i've managed to get all the part numbers of all the electrical connectors that are used in the jza70 and the ma70.

Code:
 B3 male 90980–10800
IH1 male 90980–10814
IH1 female 90980–10815
IG1 female 90980–11055
IH2 female 90980–10921
IH2 male 90980–10920
 M1 male 90980–10829

ecu connectors

     Tyco part# Toyota part#
76P	174915-6
26P	917992 90980-11390
22P	917989 90980-11392
16P	917981 90980–11565
12P	917978 90980–11424

Everything was going well until i realized that all the terminals had to be bought separately, and they're $0.25 to $1.50 a piece, which would be great if i didn't need 100 of them. So unless someone knows where i can buy terminals cheaper than that, (although $0.25 isn't too bad for the ecu connectors) I guess i'll goo looking in a junk yard for wire harness components!

Other than that, i have the engine striped as far as im going to take it, just waiting on getting new parts then putting it back together!

After the engine is back together, i'll get the new clutch and intercooler kit, and mk4 fuel pump.

looks good man.

I am not sure if that location for the oil psi gauge will be a good one. The stock gauge is pretty accurate, why not just run one of those?

I would definately buy the 1JZ gasket set from Driftmotion.
It is pretty complete so go with that and then buy the misc ones you need after that.

Like I mensioned, do everything while the motor is out! except the hg, leave that alone.

If you have any other questions post it up here!

Well my car came with the aftermarket gauge installed, so i've never seen the original pressure sender. I thought this was how the original gauge worked until i read online that the pressure sender in an electronic unit. Also i know that with the stock gauge, you need to need to buy the pressure sender adapter, since the A/C is in the way. So i figured since i have this perfectly good aftermarket gauge, i might as well put it to use, since it wouldn't require the adapter.

The $250.00 Driftmotion gasket set? the only gaskets that were damaged were the ones on the turbos, too bad the set doesn't come with any of those. Idk, i've heard that the stock gaskets are fine while you don't remove them, so i wasn't planning on changing anything but the ones i removed. Money is also short right now, i'd just rather just buy a wideband for that money, and i really didn't want to take the engine further apart than it is now. I'll look more into it when i go single.

I'm still trying to find a ventilation hose, mine cracked when i tried to pull it off :/ 12263‑88401

First off, the DM gasket set is $190 (still pricey if on a budget, i know) But seriously. Do valve seals, re-fipg the oil pan, new vc gaskets, new intake and exhaust gaskets.. At first start up you'll see all the gaskets that you left alone are "weaping" oil because you didnt replace them lol

It will be worth it in the long run. You will have a healthier motor. Just my .02

Broken hoses

had to order some super heavy duty gates hose, this was a pita to install, mainly because it didn't flex very well, i had to really pry it in there.
