7m Auto to 1jz Auto

After doing some searching it doesn't seem that too many people on here are going from auto Turbo 7m's to auto 1j's. Is it the wiring for the transmission that is the issue? I have an auto GTE and wanted to keep it that way for aesthetic purposes but if it's going to be a bitch to do I might as well stick with what I got.

Also, Supra 1jz's DID come with an auto transmission, right? All I seem to find is Soarer clips, but my understanding is they don't swap easily. This also true?

Yes there are 1jz autos out there, just not as popular as the 5 spd. I'm going from a 89 n/a auto to the 1jz auto. I just had to pre-order it from JARCO so that they be on the lookout for one. It took about two months, but they found me a nice clean one w/ 63,000 miles which ran me $2500. Hope to have it running in a week or two:icon_bigg

Actually, I think most 1JZ's were auto... at least in my country, most motors that come from japan, come auto! I was lucky to find a manual one.

I went from 7M-GE auto to 1JZ-GTE 5-spd and no, it wasn't a bitch.

Going from 7M auto to 2JZ auto.... lots to do, but luckily most of it's been done before...

Should be easier with a 1JZ (from a JZA70 anyways)....

1J Auto is not a problem, you just have to get your wiring setup right.

It will bolt on easily as long as you get a Supra Auto clip. The bonus is that they are usually cheaper.

Sorry for reviving my own dead thread, but what am I looking at as far as the wiring goes?

Jarco has a jza70 clip with an auto trans for sale that is looking pretty good right now.

Should be fine... I'd use it. Maybe a few more wires to connect, but if you're getting a clip, you'll have everything you need.

With the 2JZ-auto, I am using an APEXi speed/rev meter, since I want to keep the electronics on that tranny (instead of the speedo cable that the 7Ms have). I dunno what the 1JZ/auto comes with, but you should be fine...

you can use either tran's.i have a 1jz auto supra.you do have more wire's to extend.there is also more wire's that pass through the center of the intake plenum(fun when pulling the intake).very easy and cheap swap do.no clutch and slave cylinder to worrie about.my auto has been taking some punishment too.good thing to get it off jarco,as they will give you the diff and rear suspension also.you might want to swap in the diff,as the 4.10 is a better match for the motor(3.73 suck's with 1j auto)

Do the auto trans have the same speedo cable hookup and the like? I thought I remember reading somewhere that on the manual 1jz swaps there was some issue with the speedo cable or something like that. Does this ring a bell at all?

You're thinking of the Gertrag V160....
