5M crank is shorter stroke to make the 2.8L.

6M crank is a 91mm stroke crank, and is the same as all 86-89 7M-GE and 7M-GTE cranks, in fact the early 7M's have 6M stamped onto the crank, it's the same part number.

90+ 7M's have a new crank, affectionately called the "7M" crank, it's 5lbs more than the 6M crank and has counter balances on all the cylinders (6M doesn't have any on #2 and #5).

Hope that helps.

I think that the front part of the 5m crank is different from the 6m/7m. You may have to find a custom oil seal.... Do a search on de-stroking here and at SF

5m crank is 85mm stroke. the 6m and 7m cranks are 91mm stroke and interchangeable. 5m rods are also 1/8th in longer then 6m and 7m rods. also, if using a 5m crank. youll need to use the 5m timing covers for the block and all the 5m timing gears incl cam gears(yes they will fit 7m cams) and a 5m front main seal and 5m crank pulley.
