I have some 6.5 inch sony speakers that are about 1.75" deep, plus about .5" for tweeter on top, will they fit in the front?

ALSO......

What can be done about the rear speakers? i was thinking screw the stock mounting location and making 2 boxes for some 6x9's.

any help is appreciated.

Why do you even WANT rear speakers? Just fucks up the soundstage. Read up a little on audio before you get worked up about rear speakers.

A good sounding stereo can be had with the 2 front speakers and a sub.

I replaced my fronts with 6.5 rockford punches, bottom of the lineup rockfords if you know your stereos, and they shook my doors and made nice rich sound. Didn't even touch the rear speakers.

Actually I believe they didn't switch to 6.5 speakers in front until 1991. You'll have to do some modifications on earlier years to fit 6.5's in front. From looking at your profile I see you have a 1989, so you'll either need to do some work or get speakers that were designed to fit.

1.75" is not too deep, it will fit if you have 91+ factory speaker enclosures, but you will have to make something custom for an 89 like others have said.

i don't see anything wrong with rear speakers personally, i know some people think otherwise, but there is no way to put a really powerful midbass or any subwoofer up front so it's never truly a front soundstage.

i think a good balanced F/R setup is just fine, such as highs 80%F/20%R, mids 50/50, midbass 20/80 and bass 0/100 is good. You'll need some good EQ's though. That way you have most of your vocals and such from the front and the rest of the sound you feel like you're just immersed in it rather then it coming from all directions.

again just my personal opinion :)

i custom mounted rockford fosgate 6.5's in the doors on my 86.5. they sound damn nice. i said screw the rear speakers, and completely removed them and their associated hardware. i put pioneer 350w 6x9's in the rear in boxes, strapped to the back of the rear seats, facing the rear of the car. it sounds very full. too bad i never listen to it... haha

thanx for the help, im gonna attempt putting the 6.5's in on wednesday. About the rears, I wont have money for a sub for awhile so im gonna put the 6x9's in boxes like someone else said. I have a 12 inch power acoustic sub but its too big to fit a box and a targa top in the back.

once again thanx.

I don't agree. Not flaming but a friend of mine managed to put a 3 way component set in the doors, 8", 6.5" and a tweeter. An 8 WILL get you mid bass. Didn't sound any better than what I have.

I'm perfectly happy with my setup, and it only includes a pair of 6.5's up front. A lot of it depends on speaker selection, if you install a Kraco you're right. It won't reproduce anything, it'll sound like garbage. So will most Pioneer and Sony. In car audio you get what you pay for.

Buy decent speakers, decent amplifiers and set them up right! That's the key, tuning the system, it's like a motor. Tuning can make expensive stuff sound like @ss and cheap stuff sound awesome.

yay!! front speakers are in, just need to hook them up to amp, sound a hell of a lot better than the stockers off my sony head unit, had to make a ring around speaker and then mount it to the plate that screws to door. oh well at least i got it in :icon_razz
