You can use an auto wiring harness for a 5 speed, but you can't use a 5 speed harness with an auto. It's missing the connectors for the auto.

^ What he said

I'd trade you an auto harness/ecu (89T) for a 5sp harness/ecu (and I'd be interested in the parts for the swap, but mostly just the harness/ecu)

You'd also need the front half of the driveshaft, a shifter, linkage, trans fluid lines to the rad, an auto rad or a trans cooler, that little shock absorber thing on the side of the engine so it doesn't "buck" when you shift it into gear (I dont have it on and I don't notice it, lol), the Auto brake pedal assy, a flexplate... that's all I got.

Oh, and something to cover the hole up from the 5sp shifter since it sits a little ways further forward than the Auto shifter.

JM Digital,

If you are intersted in swapping and need all or most of the parts, consider that I would like to convert my 70,000 mile 91T auto to 5-speed. I have everything needed in very nice condition. I am also in Florida.

WHY. 5-speed WAY BETTER

Can you educate me in why 5 Speed Transmission is Waaaay Better than an Automatic Transmission?

Let me guess. It shifts faster than an AT, right? :nono:
Oh. Or wait, maybe because it's typically faster than an AT in 1/4 mile?:nono:
Or possibly because an AT cannot build up 10 pounds of boost at the line.

Yeah. 5 speed is, for a fact, better than Automatic.

What am I thinking? :icon_conf

This thread was for the parts needed to do a swap...

Not a bitch fest about AT vs. MT

They both have their +'s they both have their -'s. Take it to the debate thread, sheesh

Oh I did not mean to get everyone into it. Here is the thing; I enjoy driving my 5 speed around town. However I am an old Drag racer by heart. I started when I was 12 at Desoto Drag strip here in Florida. If I am going to get this to the track one day it would be better to have an automatic? Right? To actually win at the drag strip you have to be consistent with your times and reaction time. I can’t see being consistent with a 5 speed.

I also don’t want to get anyone too excited about trading me. I would do that when I am ready but I am not ready to swap it right away. I wanted to get an idea on what it may cost. I have to get a few more upgrades first. I also can not do the work myself so I would have to save $$$ for the mechanic shop.

It’s cool to post the pros and cons about it. I also am getting lazy as I get older. I love my supra and when I drive my fathers 89 turbo auto 100% stock there is a few moments that I think an auto would be cool with my power.

Anyway I enjoy hearing everyone’s opinions. My reasons for the swap are not because I think the auto is better.

Oh here is a question; does an auto have more things on it that can break? So I guess I am asking does an auto have more of a chance to break on you then a manual?

Thanks for the replies!
