Welcome
My name is Ron This is my first Mkiii, 87 n/a
Bought it from my cousin he did the follwoung to the car be4 i purchased it;

Motor rebuilt with high compression pistons, cams, ported and polished head, 3 angle valve job etc
Had the car painted cherry from a Cadillac sts
Racing hart type c rims, bf good wrench g force rubber
kvr rotors and carbon fiber bake pads,
front and rear adjustable sway bars
strut tower brace,
custom interior, interior was redone burgandy and gray to match the color of the car then this dumbass repainted it cherry. I may paint it back to the original burgandy.

After the built, car was sitting or 2 years. Passed down to me, and shyt started falling apart. Car ran real quick for an n/a and surprised alot of ppl when i told them i was'nt turbo but motor blew a headgasket and spun a bearing the next day same time.

So its was time for the 7mgte to drop in. Did the swap, bought supposedly a good motor from a member on here with mhg and arp bolts and bored out turbo etc. I heard the car run in the supra be4 it was pulled, only idle tho because of a bad afm. Started up good, no overheating, drove the car for a day and head gasket blew wtf, he machined the head but not the block smh. Spent all my time and money puttin the motor in and doing the swap and th downtime for the car just to have it run for a day. Its all good cause now its time to bounce back and cross ova to a jz motor. The first few post are from when i was doing the 7mgte swap while the later will be about part 2 with the jz swap. note how i keep jz and not mention if its 1 or 2 or 1.5jz, only time will tell.

Motor should be pulled out the end of this week when my uncle brings back my engine lift.
My 7mgte already have a 1.2mhg and arp studs installed.
Using the stock intercooler and piping,
Greddy type s bov,
stock afm
stock ct26
ddp,
electronic exhaust cutout (to run open downpipe at the track)
& 3" exhaust all the way back to the muffler

In a month when all the bugs from the swap are all sorted out and the car is running good, then 60 trim ct26, 550, afc II, electronic boost controller and a wideband air fuel ration. I wanna see the limits of the factory intercooler, some people say its good till 400hp. I definitley plan on chaing the pipes to hard pipes tho. I like how the intercooler is tuck away and allows to me to retain a sleeper look. If i do get a front mount, it will definitley be resprayed black to blend in.

Yes i plan on using the w58. goals for the car is just 375-380 at the wheels, The car current has a centerforce clutch kit, (i see the receipt from the previous owner but doesnt say what stage it is). So ill see how it does and if it cant hold the power then its time for an upgrade. Only reason im staying with the w58 is becuase i just bought a one piece aluminum driveshaft and would like to get some use out o it first. At the end of the summer when this project is done, car will be posted for sale because i really want to find a clean black targa turbo 5spd car.

i might go with a wingless look, make it a little bit more sleeperish. What do you guys think?

I personally like the 89+ 3-piece wing (even tho I haven't gotten around to installing mine) over the pre 89, and over the wingless rear. but if its between pre 89 and wingless, I would say wingless.

Have you thought about 89+ tail lights??

89+ tails, no wing, would look good IMO.

Change the hatch to a black primered hatch that was on the 89 shell that i recently parted put. Still has wholes drilled for the 3 piece wing if i decide to go that route.

motor is finally out,

sm_photo_missing.jpg

I plan on degreasing and cleaning up the engine bay, i actually did it already but havnt took a pic of the results yet.

old motor, sitting around until it goes for a rebuild
sm_photo_missing.jpg

tranny seperated from old motor

sm_photo_missing.jpg

just added the centerforce 6 puck and pressure plate that was installed on the old motor to the gte. I really shouldve gotten the flywheel resurface and change the clutch since i have acces to it now but unfortunately do not have the funds or time to do so. when its tyme for the next clutch replacement i will install a lightweight flywhell and new clutch disk and pressure plate.

sm_photo_missing.jpg

this could be the reason why my clutch pedal would get stuck sometime, it would come up far enuff to engage the clutch but never to the original postion

sm_photo_missing.jpg

2moro i plan on attaching the tranny back to the new motor, add the fuel pressure regulator cause mines is missing, finish adding the on eor two sensors i missed and check everything and drop the motor in place on some fresh new motor mounts. just gettin the engine back in and bolted ill be happy and do the rest of the work on friday.

it looks to me that you have JDM tails on the ends and a USDM in the center section. Might be able to find just the center piece on ebay.

Update motor is in, just need to finish hooking up intake and intercooler piping, vacuum lines, clutch slave cylinder and driveshaft. I tried starting her with the afm unplugged to hear her turn over and theres a problem with my ignition. I just bought a brand new starter and installed it yesterday, thinking that i needed a starter. When turning thr key to start, u can here the relay clicking in the glovebox area but it does not turn the starter. How ever when attached a metal wire from the switch on the starter to the power cable on the starter, its turn ova fine. So whats the problem? If it cant be source then ill just attach a switch and make it push button.

man i check everything, all of that. all of the grounds, ova and ova and ova, it has to be something im missing. But adding the starter to a switch isnt that bad right? Give it a little race car feel to it. The only thing that i can think of is that inside the connection for the wireharness on the starter is corroded really bad and maybe not making a connection not giving the starter the signal to turn over

heres is an update on the project. been busy werking 17hrs a day this month and skool so heres is an update. motor is in mated to the w58 tranny, stock intercooler and bov are hooked up just for now, my greddy type- s came 2day. Car turned ova after a few seconds of cranking, a lil blue smoke on startup but after that she ran fine. started fixing and tracing boost leaks and vacuum leaks, still have to put some hose clamps on some vacuum hoses. Fixed the few coolant leaks i have but still a lil bit more to trace. Have to fixed a power steering leak but will do that when i change to the gte power steering resorvior and lines. Plan on doing a full tuneup, just added some dino oil for startup and check for leaks. there is one small oil leak coming from the oil pan gasket, definitly dont feel like dropping the front subframe so im going to pay my mechanic to do that. Another is the turbo oil feed and return lines, Dont kno which one exactly it is but at idle its fine but as soon as the revs come up oil drips onto the turbo exhaust side and creates a cloud of smoke. still have the interior to complete and then clean up, and do all of the lil things left. Car drove under its own power, did a lil pull in my driveway, car sounds nice with no exhaust when the turbo spools up. well here are some pics

havnt seen the car sitting on all 4's in a while

yes they are just re did with some burgandy cloth, this caw as originally my cuzins and he had the werk done to the interior to match the original color, then he repainted from the burgandy to the caddy sts color. im thinking of either keeping the color it is now or repainted it the burgandy color that it originally was so the seats will match

also finally moved the push button starter from in the engine bay to inside under the driver seat. i plan on putting it in the dash, just want it in the cabin for now
