To clarify - it's a mechanical fuel pump, correct?

Did the fuel get there before you installed the carb?

mech fuel pump- i believe so, as there are no seeable wires going from it, just hoses. and i had primed it with starting fluid before i tried to start. the previous carb was going out anyway, so i felt like replacing something that needed replacement anyway, but its still not getting fuel. before i replaced the carb, there wasnt much if any fuel in the filter- its one of those visible inline filters, ya know? i probably should try to see if i take the filter off if fuel runs through the line or not. i have a feeling its the pump though

definatley the pump or you have a clog somewhere. But chev motors like fuel pressure!(any motor for that matter) It shouldnt be too expensive and there very easy to change. The filter should have very little or no air visible in it

Pull the line coming from the tank off, crank motor over with your finger held over where the line connects, if you don't feel it sucking your pump is fucked. Happened on my truck, worked fine, then 20 mins later the pump wasn't pumping anymore. If you feel it sucking then it's something between the pump and carb.

Mechanical pumps are dirt cheap to replace.

looked like pump was shot, ended up putting a edelbrock 650 performer on it, as well as a carter fuel pump from schucks. cost 30 bucks >.> but its fixed now
