There... Funny thing is I never heard this engine Knock until I drove it home, less that 1/4 mile from my house. My son was driving it when it failed. He said it never knocked just shut off and wouldn't crank. It knocked on me once, I guess it was the final TKO when I drove off about 20 feet into it...then it skipped like a kangaroo and Up the driveway it finally made it.
I had to heat the connecting rod with a Torch and Bend the connecting shell back in to get it out of the block. It was too wide. Has anyone ever have this happen?

Got a 92 7M-GTE Block. Are 89 Cranks interchangeable with the 92 Block? Or do I need to buy a Crank for the 92?

Holly Hell! been a while since I'v seen one of those, looks like the rod stripped out?

I call bs on him never hearing it knock, probably sounded like a 44 going off under the hood. Impressive none the less, that would be going on my wall with the shattered pistons and head gaskets lol. Good luck with the rebuild

All I have to say is wow....I'd say BS on not hearing that either. No way that could happen without SERIOUS noises coming from the engine bay.

yeah...I kinda think that too. As long as I have been working on engines, The catastrophic is inevitably Obvious! Anyway I hope the Crank is salvageable. I am taking it to a machine shop this week to get checked. Been a while since I have had to have a Crankshaft turned.

WOW! Another NC'er.....where from?
Greensboro, High Point area...
In case "Yall" didn't know...High Point NC is Cruiser Car Central!! if You wanna see some nice Fast and Furious kats, Main St. in High Point Friday and Saturday nights. I don't hang out there anymore since the cops got so bad... I was a die hard mini trucker back in the Early 80's when some of you were prolly in Diapers. Cruisin was starting to be a nuisance to cops since they can't stand young kids hanging out and having too much fun. Tuners and Street racers have dominated the scene and have invited some Infadels onto the scene which resulted in some Impounded cars in a illegal street racing sting recently...And they wound up at a local Auction..Nice M series BMW's, some Nissans, Hondas of course, and some bikes. And since I ride a Hayabusa, But not too much this year as the NC State Patrol has a Dodge Charger that Seemingly is Chasing down ZX-14's and Hayabusa's that Run from blue lights.. DAAAMN!
Anyway...sorry for the Rant..but I'm in Greensboro. Volvo 850 R is my Toy..This Supra I gave to my son when he turned 18 last year. It was a Father son project we started last year and he drove it all summer until about 3 weeks ago. *Poof*

No. 3 does not play well with others.

Good luck.
I bought mine blown up. It did the exact same thing. The PO said he was just cruising down the highway and out of nowhere, #3 decided it wanted out. It even exited the exact same place, your block practically looks identical to mine, lol. Good luck with the rebuild. I have a few parts left over from my rebuild.

I would advise your son not to take the thing up to the rev-limiter when he's out of your ear shot.

There was a post on one of these forums a few years back that stated that the #1 cause of rod bearing failure was banging the 7M against it's rev limiter.

I believe is supposed to be 6 and a half? I think its different between pre and post 89. I bounced it once in first in my current car:nono:, rear let go and wound up a little quick and I was too busy to watch the tac. Old track car, bounced that quite a few times but I didnt care and the tack was dead to compliment it. I will say it had a good run for the beating we gave it and the rods were actually not its demise.
