Yeah yeah, I am double posting this from supraforums.

Yeah so I got owned by an Acura RSX on the way to work this afternoon. Traffic stopped, and I stopped behind a Ford Escape. I was about 5 or 6 feet behind the Escape, had just come to a complete stop, when this jackass in a RSX decided to try to change lanes into the slow lane because there were no cars in it. As he is looking over his shoulder he failed to realize that I was STOPPED. He plowed into me at about 35-45MPH, pushing me under the ford escape's bumper. Here are pictures of the aftermath:

Now I am trying to debate what to do, I have no idea if the insurance company will total my car or not, or how much they will give me for it. I have been planning on having my car painted with some body kit pieces also, So I don't really want to have it repainted to the stock color. Any advice would be appreciated from the adjusters that reside on this forum!

1) that does not look bad at all...could have been much much worse....i doubt they will total it unless there is frame damage

2) our cars are tanks

Yea, the car looks like it probably has frame damage in the rear, because the fender is buckled slightly...I went through this with my 87 NA almost three years ago, i was in a pile up just like you were, and my rear-end looked almost identical, except my bumper was completely smashed too. It was an instant total by the insurance company.

Our Supras aren't worth that much AT ALL to the insurance company, especially not an 87. I got almost $1,200 for mine, kept driving it, and was hit again two days later by some lady as I was coming out of my alley...needless to say I didn't have insurance, and the insurance money from the guy that rear-ended me went to pay her deductible...almost $10,000 in damage was done to her almost brand new Acura TL...

Haha, even after all that, I drove the Supra for almost two years, w/ a salvaged title. Yep, after a pile-up and a T-Bone, my Supra was still in perfect working order (except for the headlights)...our cars are tanks!

Gah... sucks to see this happen....
I agree, they are tanks, but they don't hold a damn in a rear end collision... front end, they'll pull out fine, but they almost always buckle in hard when rear ended...
and that usually is an instant total... :(

Yank that thing apart and check for frame damage! Or take it to a shop you trust and have them, man. First and foremost find out if there's frame damage.

When I bought mine the front end was wrecked. It was concentrated on the passenger side almost right on the support for the headlight motors. It pushed everything so far back, and there was a good 6 inches of everything buckled up near the wheel well. I bought a parts car and had a large L shaped section of its front end cut off and welded on mine.

Granted that is going to be a lot harder to do on the rear end, but you may look into that. I'm just putting in my 2 cents as i'm terrified now that my car is painted that someone is going to hit me. I'm going to be getting comprehensive soon just in case, as well. My biggest fear is winter... don't want anyone to slide into me on the streets on on campus/in the campus parking lots. I'm buying a '90 Celica my friend's Dad has on his land just for winter.

they were sprayed by me with VHT niteshades. I will be taking the car to the local Toyota dealership's body shop for a quote tomorrow. One thing that worries me is the rear hatch opens differently after the crash, i think the latch was moved inward a little bit. also the targa top was off when I got hit. It amazingly bolted back on fine though.

damn, that blows. that rsx was way too f&f, go kick him in the balls to slow him down.

hopefully the insurance company wont screw you over like they tried to do with me (and im sure almost everyone else). took way too long for them to get their shit straight, and they tried to blame me for an accident in which a convicted reckless driver was given another reckless driving ticket.
