So after a few months of dickin' with tryin to get a 2j map ecu to work in my car i threw up my hands friday and just stuck with my 1j ECU and tuned today! im very happy with the results and wish Uncle Mike could have been there today to enjoy the moment with me. He told me at the SP Engineering meet back in March that i would put down 400+. the plan then failed, and he wanted to make sure it didnt a second time. well this setup (minus the FCON which took a crap shortly after Mike's passing) that Mike put in last was the one i stuck with and am truly thankful that even after his death he followed through with the promise.

A big thanx to the entire Supra community here in SoCal for helping me every step of the way starting with my old 87. BIGGER thanx to Brian Urbano, Ray Dollete, Jose Valle, Crazy Dave Torres, Dean Marcum, Robert Pina, and Josh Sigovia for helping me get this 89 off its blocks and on the road to where it is today.

Biggest Thanx of course to Uncle Mike Urbano who put together this final product which i had only wished for since '99 when i first saw his car at one of the import showoffs. something i always thought couldnt happend.

Nice dyno... Nice power... Nice curve... A little lean there around 4500...

Just wondering why you got more hp at the same boost by using higher octane fuel... Because I always thought that using higher octane just allowed you to use more boost, thats where the power comes from... *so you wouldnt knock*

Also, you have more torque than hp? Are you sure you have a 2JZ in there? :D:D:D

Wicked pull on the dyno and it was cool to watch the signs in the background go nuts while you were at WOT.

...because the ecu detected 'knock' /w the lower octane and retarded the timing more vs the 100 octane run. I don't pay much attention to 2jz dynos, much less ones w/ a 1j ecu, but it looks as though even w/ 100 octane the timing was being pulled until the upper rpm range where the A/F's are in a better range. 6300rpm is the beginning of what I'm talking about.

You can see clearly where timing is being pulled due to detonation on my old Mk3 dyno years ago at SILV '00 here --->LINK One run was at 12psi, second run at 15psi saw considerable detonation (back when I didn't know what that sound was) and timing retard.

Too bad that old chart doesn't have A/F's, would be nice to go back and piece together what was happening more clearly.

I understand that higher octane will reduce knock and allow for higher boost... What would concern me is if my 2JZ motor was pulling timing with only 16psi... If he's pulling timing at only 16 pounds of boost... man... Im just suprised, 16psi isnt shit, especially to a 2JZ...

I'd also be concerned with how lean it got... Looks like the fuel maps need tuning... Just to be safe...

Jake, the ecu actively adds timing until it senses knock, then pulls it to build a baseline map. So if you throw 100 octane in and reset the ecu, it will add more timing (Read: pull less timing) for any amount of boost versus 93 octane. That equals more power. Anything over vaccum has timing pulled, the octane determines how much needs to be pulled.

So Jake, you can fool your ECU into not pulling timing???

See, when I did my pulls, I never reset my ECU, I just dumped in some 104 with my 93... I'll hafta try that trick next time, see if it makes a difference at the same boost with higher octane fuel...

It should, I'm not sure how aggressive the ECU is, but I know a trick for stock mkivs is to dyno after driving around for a few months. Pull the ecu fuse, and hop on the dyno for a gain of 30 plus hp!
