I have an 88 turbo 5spd mk3 and need some questions answered.

Running a USDM 2jzgte with a 1jzgte ECU and harness, will I...

Run into any problems plugging in the body harness to the ECU, if so.. Any info on how to get it to work?

Will my dash work?

Will I run into any other problems that people might know of? Thanks!

Just follow the same 1JZ swap guides. The motor doesn't really matter once you use all the right sensors/electronics.

I have a couple 1jz pinouts. I am sure if my brother sat down with them he could figure it out, just curious about the people who have already done it.

Btw, most of the swap guides are with 89+ cars.. Thats why I was curious

I know for a pre 89 1jz swap its required that you put in the 89+ crossmember so I'd guess you'd need that too

What for? BIC sells mounts to put a 1jz into a pre89 car.

1JZ Motor mount adapter brackets
These custom made brackets allow you to drop in a 1JZ or 2JZ into your pre '89 MKIII Supra, without swapping crossmembers. The brackets are made from 3/16 steel plate, built to withstand any amount of horsepower you can throw at them. They allow use of your pre '89 crossmember and the older, square-style motor mounts that are a lot stronger than the +'89 round-style mounts. Included are new, shorter bolts to attach the brackets to the engine block. Prices include shipping within Canada or USA.

Yes go the bic route! for motor mounts besides the fluids are about 150 each then the TRD ones are not much better the 7M solid mounts are verry hard to tear up less engine play a little more vibration. They are verry cheap and handle lots of HP better. Solid all the way!

Hmm the 1JZ Ecu will be perfect you will get some nicer revs out of it also, but dont use a modified REV higher then the 1JZ factory limit.

The biggest problem with the 1JZ engine to US spec mkiii gauges is the Tach you will need a turbo tach if it works, or you will need a JZA70 tach.

Alternatives also include the MSD ignition adapter but id wrather go with the choice of not adding piggy back crap as much as possible.

^^ Okay, So I need a tach from a JDM 1jzgte mk3?

I am buying a 1jz harness/ecu that was lengthened and wired to a 2jzgte in a 89 mk3. I know that we will have to rewire the body plug to the ECU but thats fine, my brother is ASE certified in wiring and has no problems repinning a plug.

I usually get all my mk3 parts from toyota dealerships because my brother is a college student and gets a nice discount, but it looks like US dealerships around Vancouver do NOT carry 1jzgte parts such as the bellhousing and the flywheel. Looks like I will get those from driftmotion.

I guess every thing is setup to buy except for one thing and thats the motor. I set my limit at $3000 shipped, but hopefully I can find it for cheaper than that. We'll see. USDM vs JDM is another big question in my head. I see that 935 is selling an aristo 2jzgte w/ no turbos for like 1700, thats a great price, but it is using the different injectors and such. I dont know. The motor will be the last thing I buy this summer. I'd rather end my project with a debt, rather than start it with one =).

yes thats correct tach will be an issue but there is a couple other ones such as adding a union bolt and a 7m oil pressure sensor for your oil pressure gage if you want one adding or using the low oil pressure switch ? and i dont know if all 2jz have oil level warning monitors on them but the 1jz does and so will the harness but that would be a story in itself to make work but your main concern would be the tach and you might really opt for oil pressure sender. that is the only 1JZ-GTE to MA70 body harness electrical issues rick johnsons sight is verry good and verry informative I suggest using a jumper harness between the 1jz harnes to the ma70 body connectors to do this us the 7m harness cut off the connectors on the 7m harness to mate to the body connectors one the ma70 then if you can source the connectors for the body side connectors to the 1jz harnes and solder or repin new wires to go between the two so you have a plug and play set up. also the connectors can be found in many diffrent cars look around till you find some that plug into the 1jz connectors if you didnt get the clip side connectors.

Dont forget that you also have to buy a different oil pan and sump pickup or you could get one from a GE block
