2jzge piston limits?

Rice? No its Corn (E85)
I have a 2jz na-T and its at 16psi with 389whp on a .63 ar hx35,and I'm looking to get 400 maybe 450. So what is the limit on an pistons? When do they fail? My tuner is concerned that pushing any more will make the reliability go down significantly and possibly damage the ring lands since its not the turbo pistons.

Your tuner would be corrent. The ring lands are not as robust and the squish area on the dish is much different when you lower the compression with the thicker hg and N/A pistons. You can take them up to sub 500hp, some have done more but for what time period? That being said, save up, build a block and replace.

Thank you.

You could do that.

Are you running stock ge head gasket? The gte hg will lower the compression ratio allowing for more boost.

What are you tuning with?

So after some forum lurking and reading flamed threads i have came up with a plan
550whp goal

2jzge stock head
replace 2jzge rods and pistons with TT parts(they come with arp bolts for rods and npr rings and new wrist pin bushings)
TT head gasket
mojo lq9 coil on plug conversion
e85 tune
400lph walbro use factory hard lines. just change the rubber lines to telfon lined hose.
not sure on boost psi. still researching what is a safe daily psi for e85. Seeing as pump gas is max of 16psi-20psi

I would keep 10:1 compression... Especially if you are standalone.

Stock TT pistons have gone 8.8 in the 1/4, they aren't a weak link on a budget. The NA pistons and rods are making what the stock bottom ends (TT and NA) tolerate with the smaller PTE billets. The new units make crazy torque so I figure both pistons/rods are going to be fine, and if you can get E-85 the compression is going to help out tremendously for torque all over.

If you're VVt-i bottom end, then obviously yes switch out.

When going for more than 700 ft./lbs of torque, it's time for a set of Eagles/Scat rods with higher rev limit.

My NA block with 180,000+ miles made 635rwhp in 100 degree temps, and probably more at night... Lasted for more than two years of daily beatings with no problems at that power level.

EDIT: Noticed you are on 850cc injectors, you can max those out on that block with E-85 and not break a sweat. Stock pistons and all with 10:1. The PSI safety on E-85 depends on your turbo, but it's up there well above 36PSI++++. This of course limits reliability over time like any other fuel making big power on a stock 2J, ahem...

As long as you can control timing, I don't see why 10:1 would be bad for pump. I didn't have a problem with 9:1, haven't tried 10:1 yet.

Nice numbers on that 2J
QSV and a BIG BB did some nice work.

Remember that he has a E85 setup. E85 produces way more exhaust gases than regular pump gas.

Expect:
-Spool will be slower (due to less exhaust gases)
-Timing must be retarded not to knock (result is even slower spool)

I would perhaps replace the BB with a std bearing turbo, to gain some reliability on the turbo.
BB tends to fail more often. A Journal bearing turbo generally lasts a decade.

I am in the same boat as you supra kid, I am building my 2jzge vvti and I want roughly a 500hp daily driver on pump and minimize spool time. I am still confused on what size head gasket to use with my 2jzgte pistons and rods but I've been told I should use the GE head gasket to keep my compression ratio around 9:1 but I'd like 9.5:1 since apparently that helps spool time and low end power. Both of us have a lot of reading to do bud lol.
