:icon_conf I have an 89' Supra MK3 chassis which had a 7M-GE Auto in which Ive already pulled. I just got my 2JZ Aristo 5-Speed front clip. I am waiting on more parts such as ss manifold, single turbo, etc. Where should I start?

I guess I would need to convert it to manual first by installing all the clutch lines, master and slave cylinders and pedals. An suggestions?

Fit the engine without the tranny to check if youre gonna need different mounts/crossmember. Ive got a JZA70 crossmember with JZA80 mounts on mine.

Not sure about manual conversion stuff, Ive stuck with auto on mine. (Aristo tranny).

haha I have a 7MGTE powered auto 90 and If I ever get money for my swap Im getting a 1jz and 5 speed r154 then I may or may not make the hybrid using a 2jz bottom end, depends on how i like the 1jz performance. I hate my auto it just sucks, u can tell you'd be a lot faster with the 5 speed i found mine in my home townm one owner car good shape and a 90 so I couldn't pass it up just had the damn auto ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hey Sir... You have PM.

I am staying auto also. Fits my needs and I'm getting old ;-) Nuttin' wrong with auto... tho I felt like you guys for many years...every sports car should be manual. But, kinda grown outta that, since coming to the Dallas metroplex...

1st thing 1st you need to check your cross member, mine 89 was an early 89 and had the square motor mounts and the wrong cross member, it took longer for me to find the late 89-92 cross member then it did for the rest of the swap

1.) gather everything you need for the 5spd swap
1a.)Install the easy stuff and make lines for the Clutch master (SS lines easiest and best way to go)

2.) gather everything you want/need for your 2j swap
pre-89 make mounts (like i did, or order some today from BIC)
decide on hydrofan or electric fan setup and plan accordingly
(will have to fab the aristo shroud to fit the 7M stoc rad)
re route your coolers
> Use the aristo Hydro cooler and fab it up to fit for the water pump
(if applicable)
> Reroute a cooler for the PS, i used my old 7M oil cooler, since the 2j cooler is just water cooled.
Do the PS rack mkiv line, or just get a custom one made and remove a lot of old useless PS line from the rack and make all of that go to the new PS cooler and one to the new pump, which will now sit on the actual side the pump is on (since the lines are all now underneath the PS pump)

plan your exhuast and intercooler piping, now would be a good time to measure everything and decide on the UBends you will need (size, quantity, etc.)

Decide on different couplers you will need, transition sizes etc.

The rest of the stuff is cake, by the time you get around to figuring all this out you will notice other things you want to change and will now have a game plan...

also i will be working on a wiring schematic to help people out with all that fun stuff, hopefully i will have something whipped together in the next couple of weeks once i start my wiring....

hope that kinda got you in the right direction...

things you will also need:

rear sump pan, i suggest getting one used from an mkiv dude from an NA cheap and retapping the oil feed..

you will need the following for the pan:
top piece
bottom piece
inner baffles
oil pickup
some rtv :)

my brain is fried, and i have to get back to work.. but throw your Q?s up here and i along with others will be glad to help.

Ya it all makes sense. thanks for the help. I do have the later style 89+ crossmember with round mounts already (thank god). So I need 1JZ motor mounts and MK4 engine brackets, correct me if im wrong.

Aristo clip, r154 tranny 5speed 1jz bellhousing conversion.

Would I need a custom driveshaft? I would also need to swap out the Auto rear differential on my 7Mge auto chassis?

What things should I do before droppin in the 2jz engine?:icon_razz

... U will need 1JZ- JZA70 motor mount brackets (the 89+ US motor mounts will work...just need them brackets).

You can use a MKIII turbo 5-speed driveshaft (dunno if the N/A one will work).

Can't stress this one ENUFF... get all your stuff together BEFORE you start. Too many ppl (like me) think that things will just fall into place and everything you need/order will be there the next day... not true and you will start, get distracted while waiting for stuff (or mad at waiting on ppl), then get back to it so slowly that it will take forever, cost you a bunch and you'll be the one they use as the example in the engine X vs. engine Y threads. ;-)

You should do all those things that are good to do while engine is out... some examples:
1. Clean the hell out of the engine bay (maybe repaint)
2. Install oil filter relo kit (the filter is a serious PITA to change... sits way close to the MKIII strut tower).
3. Timing belt and other easy to get to maintenance (I'm doing mine later instead). Also the US 2JZ waterpump install, if U R going that route.
4. Check all hard-to-get-to hoses/lines and replace if necessary.

Probably more tips out there, but same as with any other engine swap process...

good point elvis! make a lis tof what you will need.

also if you have a 7mge rear end and dont have the "sport package"
LSD i suggest getting one.(dont want to go 1 wheel peeling)

Also a turbo driveshaft will work with the 2J/r154 combo..

Like Satan said do the easy to replace things
Front Main Seal
Rear Main Seal
Valve Cover gaskets
h20 thermostat
timing belt
cam shaft seals

focus on the motor going in the car

then assess what your car needs replaced
from brakes to bushings, and decide what needs to be done for the engine.

You will need a new FMIC
ebay has some good choices
IC piping, again ebay has some good sellers for this stuff
decide what you need for exhaust

mkiv water pump, pulley and clutch fan *if ditching the hydro fans

but just get a pen and paper, or computer and excel and chart out all
the things you want to change in your car, this helps immensely.

good luck!

you do not need to spend 100$ for the dumb P.S. line just use the hydro fan pressure line for your P.S. pressure line thats it. and get rid of the hydro fan its crap and when it brakes cant get the parts for it infact you can get an electric water pump if you use the 2jz housing. The 2jz water system with electric fan is way cool!

well i am using the hydro fan, and a custom line that will be less than 1.5ft and reusing the stock ends @ a hydraulic line shop should cost 30$ max...

I had a custom 3-piece line made up for the 7M... Any hose shop can do what you want... For the current swap, I stuck w/my 2JZ PS line that I had left from the previous swaps... (~$200-$300).

Here's what any shop can do... mine cost $65, because I had them replace both rubber pieces of the lines with remove-able ones (so about $30 each side). That way I could remove/replace only the bad end (easy & cheap to do, compared to replacing the entire line), if it ever leaked again. Just giving you ideas....

why not use the V160 its the tranny that came with the 2jz i heard its a tough fit in the tunnel but adjusting engine positon even can let the twin turbos fit what some one was saying but id do single personaly. 2JZ-GTE w V160 6speed. the v160 is even tougher then the r154 from what i understand since they tunes supras up to 1300hp with them. also to convert auto to manuel takes a lot of work you have to bypass tranny nuetral cuts and the 2jz auto is slightly tuned diffrently might even have less hp by a little if im not mistaking.

^^^ Because just to get a V160, it will cost you ~$2500 plus shipping....

Unless you're going high-HP right away, there is no need. Even then, you should probably look at the GM tranny conversion that alot of other high-HP MKIVs use. Day-to-day, everyday use does not justify the cost (unless you just want to, I guess).

I just converted my 89 MK3 to manual, installed the clutch master, pedals, ss lines that I got from the junkyard.

I had just got my 98 MK4 fluid filled Motor Mounts and im still looking for some JZA70 1JZ Engine Brackets. Please let me know if someone has any for sale...

Does anyone know where I can get an MK4 Supra oil pan complete, etc.?

Ive already cleaned my engine bay, tested my starter and alternator and checked the motor for worn seals and hoses.

I should be ready to drop the 2J in after Ive sourced the listed parts above...

Any suggestions?

I will see if I can find the 1 "missing" 1JZ bracket that I have in a box somewhere (to complete the set)... Zoon let me have his spare ones.

Is your's the early or late 89? If it's the earlier one, then you'll need the custom brackets made up.
