........CAT! Gotcha to look anyways. LOL

Here's a picture of the 7M and 2JZ oil filter brackets. I am doing a 2jz swap into a 1990 MA70 for those who don't know.

The 2JZ oil filter bracket puts the filter at a very difficult location when the engine is mounted into the car, especially with the water/oil oem cooler sandwitched into this.

Can I not just use my old 7M oil filter bracket and then also make use of my old 7M's external oil cooler that I was using. It's an aftermarket enlarged cooler and surely will provide better cooling than the 2jz water oil cooler.

The 7M had a pressure release valve that would only divert the oil to the cooler under higher pressure situations if I remember correctly. Could this be resolved by simplyu removing the spring and little cylinder from the bracket housing? This would allow the oil to continuously flow through the cooler would it not. And where should the oil be returned to the block optimally if so?

Is there any point in additionally running the water oil cooler that had been on the original 2jz filter bracket? Or is this overkill.

I also noticed that the 2jz bracket has 2 threaded plug in it, removed in this picture. Could they be alternatly used to run lines to a aftermarket oil cooler?

My car never sees harsh weather or winter driving conditions. So having the oil too cool should be a problem, I don't think anyways, can your oil be too cool?

So I would prefer to use the 7m bracket with my cooler and if need be I could also make use of the water oil cooler if it would be a good thing.

Opinions?

Thanks guys!

there is an optimum temp for your oil, if you want to do it right you should ditch the 7m filter and include a thermostat so the oil is kicked out to the cooler when the temp is right. i cant remember the link/thread but there are a few on the matter.

I am also dealing with this doing my 2jz swap. My plan is to get rid of that entire assembly completely and replace it with a oil filter relocation kit along with an inline oil thermostat that will divert oil to a cooler. I have no idea if you could use the 7m assembly, but honestly I think it would be a step down. You might want to look into getting a NA 2jz oil filter bracket as those are a bit smaller and will help with clearances.

I'm going to try and see if the 7m NA filter stud will have enough thread sticking out of the block to thread the oil relocation fitting on. There's apparently a Ford stud that works but I've also read reports that say it's too short.

If you look in the motor oil/lubrication section, there is a stickied thread that gives you the basics on how the ideal oil setup should be. If you read that it should give you a good idea on what your options are. Also if you check out SF and do some searches there you should come up with some other ideas that people have down in regards to dealing with the stock water/oil exchanger system.

Guys - JZ swap questions do not belong in the General section. I'm getting kinda tired of moving this stuff and will start handing out infractions if you don't pay attention to where you post.

I'm sorry dude, it wasn't a matter of not paying attention though I assure you, I was just discussing this with one of the mods in flashchat yesterday and we came to the conclusion that this would be the best area for it.

Sorry dude, didn't realize I was causing any kinda extra work for you.

I'll try to choose better from now on.

I know that sometimes posting to the moderated threads is slow for getting them actually up and viewable by others but this is not why I chose general in this case. I chose general because the bracket for the 7M is a point of issue for oil cooling setup AND because I was curious if it could be a better choice for my build.

I was in a hurry when I posted earlier, to clarify I meant ditch the 7m filter housing not just the filter but I assume that was understood.

I would check this thread out if you haven't already: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62838

I think the 3rd or 4th post also shows a diagram. I know this is for the 7m but the system should apply for both motors. As I recall its just as much of a bitch to get to the stock filter location on the 2jz as it is for the 7m. I would go with a filter relocate kit, oil thermostat and bigger after market oil cooler. I think this would give a better temp control over any of the stock filter housing, plus you relocate the oil filter to an easy to get to location in your bay.
