Just wanted to check and see if others have run a 255 tire in front and if so, what offsets and profiles it was done with.

I have a 17x9 +35 front wheel I'll be using and was hoping a 255/40 would fit without rubbing. This is with eibach springs.

Thanks,
Brian

I'm running 255's on all 4 corners, 17x9 27mm offset, running 255 40 17.
I rub the front fender lip on hard bumps, so rolling is needed with this offset.

i can never remember the offset of mkiv TT rims, but i'm running falken azenis rt-615's on them. 275/40/r17 rear, no problem at all, 255/40/r17 front, rubs on full lock. adjustment of the steering stops fixed the problem.

Shaeff, you're talking about the tire contacting the inner fender right?
I believe mk4 fronts are 17x8 +50 so they sit in much further towards the inside.

Thanks,
Brian

I have run both 17x9.0 with a +24mm offset and 17x9.0 with a +36mm offset. No rub issues with the +24mm offset, and I have Eibach springs. There was a small problem with the +36mm offset. When bringing the wheel to full lock it rubbed on the lower control arm a little. This was only when turning the wheel to the left, turning right made for no problem. I beleive the rubbing could be contributed to not having an alignment after removing all of my control arms...

your 9" Rim seem to be just big enough to fit a 255 Tire

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

there are some nice calculators in there that will let you know if you are using the right width rim for your tire and if you are using the right Percentage side wall for the size of your tire compared to stock to keep all your numbers in Order. MPH and the odometer.

As for Off site this set this might help you as well

Syst, how about fender contact? Did the tires come into contact with the fender? With a +24 offset it seems like they must have stuck out past the fender in a 9" width.

A 9" wheel should be more than sufficient for a 255, the range for a 255/40 should be 8.5->10.
Thanks,
Brian

9" is plenty for a 255, i have 255's in the rear on sawblades and 245's up front.

Edit: i guess it matters though that theyre a big profile 255 and 245, both 60 profile

There was absolutely no rub problems with the +24mm offset wheels. They sat so perfect on my car. I will be getting another set some time.

It depends a lot on how low the car is. I think 245/45/17 is about the best match for a 275/40/17 on the back. 255/40/17 would probably fit in the front on a 9" +35 wheel but you will probably need to roll the fenders.

I run a 255/40 up front on MKIV TT wheels, and it fits....barely.
The wheel has about 1/4" clearance between the tire, and inner wheel well at full lock, so don't be going over any large bumps at full lock (like that will happen). I notice it rubs sometimes at full lock, but this is because my steering rack bushings are shot, and my rack slides around. On a normal car, they won't rub.

When driving around, I notive no rubbing issues. The steering wheel sure feels a lot havier though :)

no, i have no inner fender contact, and i'm lowered on eibachs. perhaps on a large bump they might make contact briefly, but i have yet to bottom out like that.

i mean that the actual rim contacts the lower control arm at full lock. to fix this, i adjusted the steering stops out a bit until they no longer made contact on full lock.

I was thinking of getting the exact tires, do you have any pictures of them so I can see how much they stick out from the rims?

I am running 17 x 9 with +38 offset with 255/40 tires and megan coilovers. I have no rubbing problems what so ever.
