well i have an automatic 88t. i just got a parts car which is also an automatic, do you guys think it will be a good idea putting 2 stock tranny coolers inline with eachother?

the bigger the cooler (trans coolers anyway) the better. I believe one mk3 owner runs dual stock intercoolers, not sure to what benefit, but 2 trans coolers would absolutely be a plus. Plumb it from the out on one, to the in on the other and then back to your trans...

good thinking man, the main killer of auto's is heat.

Will you be pulling the tranny cooler out of the radiator? The stock cooler is an integrated design, the cooler is part of the radiator. I think it may be easier if you just save up a few bucks and put an aftermarket cooler in there instead. If you decide to do dual stockers let us know, I know I'm interested in how it all turns out.

In regards to the dual stock intercoolers, I've seen seen pics of that set up. It's supposed to help 1) cool the air better and 2) make things be more efficiant, no pressure drop. Interesting concept.

Look at the bottom of your radiator, you will see two smaller coolant lines on either side going back into the engine bay. The thing those hoses connect to is the stock cooler. It is just stuck into the lower tank of the radiator.

Look at the pictures on the right that reference the 7M-GTE automatic, it is marked as the oil cooler

hmmm people always told me the tranny cooler was mounted next to the IC......if its intergrated in with teh radiator then i guess i wont be doing it. i guess i'll just save up for an aftermarket cooler

ok well then i guess i'll save up for an aftermarket tranny cooler. but i have another question:
the LSD on my car is fried, but the one on the parts car is still good. will you lose HP if your LSD is bad? and if i decide to change out the LSD how will i go about doing it?

A worn LSD will just act like an open differential, only putting power down to one tire at a time. If the bearings are also worn, I suppose it could be less efficient than a new one, so perhaps it would cause some additional drivetrain loss. However, it probably wouldn't cause enough drag for me to notice by the seat of the pants.

The LSD in your parts car may have a different gear ratio (87-88 turbos had 3.91, 89-92 turbos had 3.73, and NA's had 4.3), but the easiest way to do it is to just swap out the entire differential housing. There are 4 bolts on the driveshaft, another 6 bolts on each axle, and I believe 5 more bolts holding the differential housing up. I also removed the two bolts holding the carrier bearing up to make disconneting the driveshaft a bit easier -- but it is not necessary.

If you want to go with an LSD that won't wear out so quickly, give me a call. The price jump is significant, but so is the performance increase

OMFG its IN the radiator, you know how long i spent taking covers off looking for a seperate oil cooler , forever thats how long. i thought those nipples were for Engine Coolant that traveled into the tranny for some reason. ok i know where i am now, what about the flat oil coolers where its just metal tubing criss crossing back and forth with the little metal wings on it, the ones you can just tie to front of intercooler or radiator. i wanted to hook a line from the return line-> to the new oil cooler on radiator/intercooler -> back onto line leading to tranny. supposed to decrease temp by 60 degrees with the cooler im looking at.

gawd why didnt i realize it was INSIDE the radiator. thnx you saved my life.

Just curious, what if you did the dual intercooler thing with the Sparco intercooler. I know it would be pricey, but if such good results were seen from the restrictive stock coolers, what would happen if you had two really nice intercoolers in there?
