have few questions that ive read and just want staright foward answers

will the motor mount be a direct fit ?
will i need a diff radiator?
will i need a diff intercooler?
is the driveshaft the same?
is there a step by step on how to install a 1jz ?
what problems should i be ready to incounter>?
will fuel still be same?
exhaust will i need custom piping ?
is it better to extended the harness or drill hole in firewall by throttle cable ?

these answers are everywhere....
yes depending on application pre 89 you need brackets post 89 you need the 1jz mounts or bic brackets.
no
i would suggest an upgraded IC..
driveshaft is the same if the transmission is the same.
yes.
fitment of twins, wiring, prepping the engine.
yup, i would suggest a better fuel pump.
exhaust shop work = 50$ or so.
i would drill a hole personally.

the firewall needs to be hammered back a bit. if you have a non turbo manual you need a different driveshaft. the 1jz manual driveshaft will be the same size as the 7mgte manual driveshaft.

since yours is a 91 you dont need to buy brackets. only mounts if they are bad.

prepping is doing the seals and belts before you throw the engine in.

nothing dumb about questions. unless of course the answers are all over... which they kind of are ;);) http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29117

Um, question tlo86, why would he have to bash the firewall to get the twins to fit? I just installed my 1J n it fit like a glove. These motors come stock in japan and the engine bay is the same size isn't it?

5l_eater - I am a rookie at swapping for the supra as well. But i am in the process of installing my motor and stuff. I actually just got it in the engine by this weekend.

FYI, check out SF(other site) & SM of course for swap information.

89+ you do not need BIC mounts (brackets)

I would purchase an engine gasket set from Champion Toyota. Its roughly $180 for the set and it comes with alot of gaskets. I would replace as many as you want too. Front & Rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, and that would pretty much cover it. The rest keep for if you want to change them over in the future.

I would also think about changing the timing belt if time permits you. I did not change mine yet, but i have the tensioner and timing belt when i get the free time for it.

I would also replace the spark plugs and inspect every coil for cracks and repair. I hear shrink wrap works well, epoxy, JB Weld, and enamel nail polish.\

I would also replace the fuel pump just for safe measure and replace the fuel filter while your at it. If you keep the hydro fan setup remember to have a cooler for this as well as the power steering pump. *PS read the thread about fake walbro fuel pumps. Purchase one from a well known vendor*

You could also have the starter and ALT checked. If its bad 91/92 supra for the starter and 92 sc300 2j for the alt (100 amp) compared to stock being 80 amps i believe.

Change the clutch while you are at it along with a new throw out bearing.

Have a jumper harness made by Aaron at Driftmotion or DR Tweak do your wiring harness both of which are on this board.

You will run into some issues but there is always help here. I'm also learning as i go, its not too hard just yet. :)

tlo has a 2j IIRC, those twins are pretty different thats probably what he was referring to.

:biglaugh: whoops then! i swear the 1j guys said it was the same too since the heater core and such made it stick out a bit~
