3100cfm is required to keep the 1jz cool in all wheater conditions.

3300cfm for the 2jz.

Stock 2jz fan clutch setup flows 3400cfm.


This is on a stock application modification will change that number.

There are many factors in how well a cooling system works. Ideally, you'd have all your air dams and under tray in place, but that isn't too common on these cars anymore due to stupidity and laziness. :(

Ambient weather will also play a role. My car does just fine pretty much no matter how hard I push it up at this altitude in the dry, cool weather. However, somewhere like Arizona... my fan setup is pathetic, to say the least. Try to get a fan pulling at minimum 3500-4000 cfm. The OEM clutch fan setup is a good one, the hydrofan, as is (from what I've read, I have one, but I've not used it yet) the electric OEM fan setups from various Ford vehicles such as the Taurus, Contour, Lincoln MkVIII, etc...
