Hey guys, Im matt, 21 from Australia, and well - here is my car..
Half way through a 1j swap and since I frequent SF.au I will just be dumping photos here as well to share my experience
Bit of background:
She is an '89 ma70 that my brother bought about 5 years ago. And for about 10 years or so I've wanted a project car, or at least a car worth spending money on..
So anyway probably around 3 years ago the 7m blew the hg and my brother stripped it down and got everything machined - then started reassembling, adding ARP everything along the way.
Once all back together he had an exhaust leak which he just couldn't track down, and then he started traveling for work. . . a lot.. So there she sat, under my dads house - half gutted.. I bugged him about me buying it off him for about a year and then gave up.. But a few months ago I asked him some advice on how to get my hands on a 180sx shell.. And he replied with - "Get a trailer and go pick up my supra.. You can have it". . . . !!!
So after a quick call to him he explained that he just doesnt have the time to work on it, and since its been sitting for three years its gonna take some work.. Oh and he had just bought one of the new 86's anyway.. lol..
So the next day I had it sitting under MY house.. hahaha. I got to work straight away ordering parts here and there to get the 7m back on track. Stockpiled fluids and drained just about everything in the car.. And then my mate said that the jza70 he had owned for 2 years (he was on p-plates and was waiting to get it rego'd and have a new turbo'd daily) was unregisterable [long story..] So I bought it off him for 3k. JZPOWAAAA! It also has quite a few nice little mods on it.
So now I've stripped the 7m out and am halfway through the swap! Still a long way to go and I will no doubt have a whole lot of Q's along the way but thats what forums are for!
Alrighty enough talky - onto the pics..

ONTO THE SWAP PART OF THE THREAD
Making a mess of the harness, doesnt really matter since I will be using all the jza70 harnesses to make the swap that little bit easier and legit..
And here she sits waiting to get rolled out into the light.
AND SO IT BEGINS (Im in the workshirt, just so everyone doesnt think im the gumby lookin one, who is my mate from work)
Almost out, needed to jump into the bay to get a good grip on it since it wasnt going to clear the rad support.
OUT
Back inside onto my ghetto ass engine stand
Forgot the slave cylinder till the last minute..
Empty bay was the goal. 3 hours work, not bad for my first engine pull..
The only damage to the firewall (as well as the rust....) this was because of the slave cylinder..
More rust.
Bagged and tagged every bolts along the way to make it easier to reassmble.
Dont know what this is but its rusty! KILL IT WITH FIRE
And thats basically where im at right now..
Still waiting on parts to come in and need some more motivation to keep working on it.. Ive been doing long hours at work so im pretty tired!
Will keep you guys updated, hopefully this huge first post is enough to get some of you guys keen enough to answer some of my nooby questions im bound to ask..
I will upload the only pic I really have of it without being pulled apart in a sec.. Tell me whatcha think!
