And the progress from today 3/2/09. We cleaned the inside out and organized the parts. Removed the old S code 6.38 in rear axle while my G code is in the shop getting the brackets welded on(i tried to cut them off but my air compressor wasnt having it lol). Sorry it was getting dark outside

Yes the car does have major rust in the rear quarter panels but until i get it fixed i think it adds to the sleeper look. Im gonna have the car look and sound basically stock. Stay tuned. 25 more days is the goal because thats when my daughter will be born. After that i dont think i will be doing too much work on it.

Thanks

Mike

Have you don't any strengthening to the chassis yet? I don't know much about the older TE chassis, but I know the AE86 chassis starts flexing and tweaking alot at over 160ft/tq. Generally we spot weld just about every inch of them for turbo 4age's and the like or 3tc turbos drag projects. However with a 1jz, you don't really have to worry about torque that much lol, but it probably wouldn't be bad to do some spot welding, fill the rails and possibly go full cage.

What are you doing for supporting suspension? Since the added weight and length of engine will upset some of the balace, and could affect the drivability of the car.

Title edit as there's nothing "official" about this ;)
(pet peeve of mine)

Looking forward to following this closely.

I apologize i cant even remember why i did that.

As far as the TE and AE go. They are 95% the exact same car. Looking underneath the 2 on a lift it would be extremely hard to tell which is which. As far as chassis strengthening im not going to do too much. I may put some reinforcement bars here and there but i dont have enough money and im not too worried about the chassis bending as i wont really be beating the crap out of it as much as my 3T motor(at least not yet). For suspension after talking to a guy i work with who has built several different cars ive decided to go with some Koni adjustables or Tokiko Illumnas all around with T3 short stroke adapters. And some eibach springs. That should take care of it and the car should actually handle a little if not unbelievably better than factory since ive since removed the loose steering box and added a manual rack and pinion. Im also adding a rear sway bar and larger tires all around. Only driving it will tell. We will definitely see when its done. Hopefully my rear end is finished today

Me too. My baby girl was just born monday so i wont be spending AS MUCH time on it but hopefully next week i can cut the firewall and do my final mock up. Im contemplating buying the driftmotion 1JZ to early 7m crossmember mounts because i have those type of mounts. We will see.

Stay Tuned

Painted and mounted my16x8 Starion wheels(yes the tires are bald)

Mounting it in(FITS PERFECT)
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Removed the all original KYB Toyota Suspension
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Pulling out the engine would be much easier with a cut radiator support. Notice the awesome rope instead of a chain.

Out of the car and mounts removed
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Stripped front end and engine bay
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Also picked up a spare G code Rear end to remove some of the hard to find 1 Ton Specific parts as to have a spare rear end just in case. Paid 80 bucks. I wish i picked this one up first.

I got my crossmember back from being modified. Ive decided to not go with a solid mount and after some mocking decided to go this route
So i had the brackets cut off angled downwards, rewelded and slotted in case i have the move the engine left to right

Also got my badass tranny crossmember. Took the original R154 crossmember and cut the center out of it and welded it to this piece. ITs nice and thick.

I wanted to work on it today but it rained. So hopefully sunday i can slap it on and have the engine and trans moutned and DONE!

Already got my Lexus IS300 master cylinder, im gonna use a stock Is300 fuel pump and hope it works, then its rerouting my brake lines, fuel lines, driveshaft wire it up and fire it up. Already got my hubs back from moser engineering and put my megans and tokicos together up front. I have to modify the hubs a tiny bit so when thats done ill have the front and rear suspension in and done. Shes coming together nicely.

Its in
