Ok so my question is are most or all of the 1jz harness plugs the same as the 7m or not? My dad just got me a ton of harness extenders for free and they have plugs like the 7m. Can I use these to extend my 1jz harness when I do my swap?

Two of the dash plugs are the same dimensions. That's about it. All the ecu plugs are different from a 7m ecu and the third dash plug is totally different. However, if you are looking for plugs like the 1j ecu plugs I believe there are a few cars out there that have them.

Check this site out:

The last dash plug on the body side, the M1 connector is a fairly common toyota connector, I don't know about the plug on the 1j harness side(IG1) though.

you do not need to extend the harness

use a rotozip route out your speedo pull your harness through the dash to the ecu bolted factory location.

next use the 1JZ clip side body connectors mate them to the 7m engine side connectors! tada jumper harness plug and play!

^^^^^ That is exactely what I was going to do if the plugs don't work. Glad to see someone has already done it successfully. Thanks for the info guys!

Yep, this is what i'm doing and driftmotion is doing the PnP harness for me only 110 bucks. Best damn bang for the buck

The methode i mentioned is less tedious less of a PITA
Not to mention it is possible to get the entire electrical portion done in less then 1 day. extending the harness add a couple days at least and have fun buring your finger tips.. and hope you didnt make a single mistake that may blow up your engine or ecu..

^ how did you run your harness? Mine is through the speedo hole and the harness is wrapped in front of the heater core box right behind the radio. I don't like, and I hate taking the dash out! anyone got pics?

I have my dash off right now, as I was trying to figure out the routing. There are only two spots that could possibly work. One is run behind the radio as others have said, the other is above the heater core in between the defrost vent and the front dash vent. The second spot is almost impossible to run the wires through unless you pull the dash off and it's still a really tight fit.

i'm taking ^ that route because i rather have a bitchy time putting the harness in a good place rather then, have a bitchy time extending the harness manually. Just took my stock harness out of the cabin. Total 5 minutes to get the glove box off, ecu out, and pull harness through hole.

I would almost say I spent more time dicking with the interior harness-dash part, then the mechanical engine bay part of the swap. I think I would extend the harness if I could do it again.

The harness really dosent fit where I put the arrow, and if you did cram it there, the body plugs would wind up where I put the circle; which I guess is not too bad if you had a jumper harness with plugs on both ends, which will make it so you just can't modify the harness or jumper harness without taking the dash out again.

If you run it in front of the box, behind the radio, it sits no further then it is in that pic, and sure as hell isint going to the stock location. I'm thinking about putting it under the radio in a din slot or making a harness extension for the ecu plugs, which I could use to tap into for electronic mods.

Sorry I don't have a clearer pic.

nope mine reached no problem at all! you have to modify the plastic piece at the end of the engine by the plenum where it bends up.
the harness goes streight from the back of the engine into the speedo hole in a "S" shape with a little slack instead of going streight up then down then to the side and in you have to break a little of the plastic off or open the cover in the back of the engine.
I even had slack so the engine wouldnt pull on the wires when routed this way!
but here is my picks!

here is 100% proof it works i drove my car a long time and when i stripped my supra it was easy to remove.

there is a couple routes you could take over the tunnel, behind the radio, between the vents, fallow the main harness behind the dash use the one that works the best and some routes may be necessary for you to remove the dash.
