Been looking around and found that I need a 2jzge flywheel and clutch setup. Does this mean a flywheel out of an 2jzge manual car? Such as is300, gs300 (I think)? Or does it mean out of a NA mk4 manual supra?

The w58 is fine. It can hold. If I go big power and Turbo later I'll probably get an r154. Or I I have that money I'll just go for a mk4.

well all u need is the 1jz flywheel then!! there a little expensive but you can find a light weight one for 250 brand new!
You should research more about 1JZ swaps before you give others information. Proper grammar would be nice as well.

Emeraldage, any 2JZ W58 flywheel will work fine. You will also need a 2JZ/W58 bellhousing.

The GS300 never came with a manual trans (afaik), but the SC300 and MKIV NA both did and the parts will work. You also need the clutch fork from whatever car you get the bellhousing from. If you're using a W58 from an older W58 you will need to use the old cast style release bearing that came with that older transmission (I know the 87 came with it, I *think* the year split on this bearing is 89', but it might be 93'). The newer style sheet metal release bearing fits and works in a pinch, but has issues with the older W58 front bearing cover and will cause accelerated wear on the clutch fork and pivot ball, and the pressure plate fingers. It will also make noise. Ask me how I know this.

You're going to be using all the newer stuff, so don't worry about older cast forks, or any of that stuff.

You want a 2JZ-GE/W58 bellhousing and flywheel from a MK4 Supra N/A or SC300 (these are the only cars in North America that came with the parts you need), along with the appropriate fork, ball, release bearing and clutch setup. No 1JZ-GTE, 7M-GTE or 2JZ-GTE parts for you here, you need to get them from a 2JZ-GE. Also you will want to avoid IS300 parts as well, unless you feel like running their oddball setup (it's not the same).

The collar that the release bearing rides on on my 86.5' W58 is shorter by about 1/4" than the collar on the MKIV W58 that I had bought for parts. When I had the MKIV release bearing installed in the older W58 on the car it was off the front of the collar halfway and was flopping around.

The older cast release bearing was designed for the shorter collar and the part that engages the collar is longer. Also, I'm not talking about the fork being cast here, I'm talking about the release bearing assembly itself. The newer one is one piece, but the older design had a cast iron center hub with a replaceable bearing that pressed onto it.

The spring clip that holds the bearing to the fork needs some creativity to make it work, as neither the older spring clip nor the newer one fits right on. I bent the newer style clip a bit and it worked fine.

You can see the collar inside the newer release bearing vs the older style.

The bearing is not pressed onto the bearing sleeve in these pictures.

He never said what year W58 he's using. I have the same setup, and I had to deal with that stuff because the W58 I have is from an early 87.
