I have a 1j auto. The problem is the car doesn't shift down into first; it starts out in second always. Could it be just the selenoid or something more?

Yeah, after it gets up enough speed it goes to 3rd & 4th fine. I can start out in low gear and manually go through 1st but not in drive. It just started doing this so I guess I'll have to sit it down till I figure out what's going on.:3d_frown:
I know nothing about autos, but a lot of times, these random problems can be cured by changing the fluid.
