Anywho... Rear main seals came in and the TSRM does not really explain how to put it in. It just looks too easy on there. Do I have to pre-lube/oil the seals before pushing it into the seal retainer? And then lube it again before pushing it into the crankshaft end and bolting it up? Dont know if doing that will cause it to leak.

Maybe I am exhausted and just over thinking it.

Also I do not know how to read japs.

I just took the seal holder (metal retainer thing) out, tapped the old seal out of it, tapped the new seal in carefully. Then I put oil around the inside of the seal that touches the crank part and put it back on. Of course clean the retainer and mating surface off really good and use gasket maker when you put the retainer back on. Good luck!!

you would want to put "grease" on the seal, where the seal rides on the crank, and also you want to be very carefull putting that thing back in especially with the lower sump on, it is a paint to get on you can damage the seal, you want to get a small pick so you can slightly move the seal in it's place to properly seat. Good luck you would want to be very carefully putting that thing on and make sure that the spring is still in place, or you will be sorry :naughty:

yeah that rear seal is a MF'er... seal drivers are good investments after you ruin two seals

Is installing the rear main seal similar to installing the rear main seal on the 7M?

If so, why not use the old seal to push the new one in?

Most of the rear main seals I have done are set up similar. The 7M and JZ engines are the same as far as I can remember.

it is like the most simple thing to do, my friend had never done one and he had it done when I came back to the shop like 20 mins later.. FIPG FTW.

then again I have a 92 motor with 30k lol. It really didnt need to be done anyways..

I thought 2JZ and 1JZ rear main seals were the same.....I already ordered a 2JZ rear main seal for my 1JZ.....

Can anyone confirm this?
