i have an 86.5 that is dead right now. i dont know if the head gasket is gone or possibly a cracked head, but i want to replace the motor with a 1jz my question is what motor do i use will the twin turbo 2.5 liter motor work or do i just have to go with the single turbo 3 liter newer motor.

if you want to put a 1jzgte in there, you do that, if you want to put a 7mgte in there, you do that, if you want to put a 2jzgte in there, you do that.......and your question is?
It is alot of work and is possible and also BIC sells some custom made brackets for the motormounts so then you don't have to change to the 89+ crossmember.
The 1JZ is a 2.5 liter bi-turbo 6 cylinder. The other engine you are talking about is the 7MGTE, which is a 3.0 liter single turbo 6 cylinder.
Both would require about the same amount of work. The 1JZ probably offers more potential for power and durability, but less torque and less readily-available parts.
