1jz intake valve ticking / valvetrain noise

Just finishing up my 1JZ swap (soarer) into the E30. It sounds like there is some valve train noise from the intake side of the engine, like a ticking valve. Doesn't go away with warmup.

Anybody else have this problem or a solution?

Oil level is fine, oil pressure is good.

I can report that I have this condition as well, but don't consider it a problem. Can't say I've ever heard a Supra that doesn't have a little bit of valve clatter, but haven't done enough with them or bothered to look into whether it causes any problems. All 24 of my valves are within Toyota clearance specs, so I'm not too worried about it.

None that I'm aware of, have been using the car as a DD for two years now, and the only problem I've had is a coolant hose that I didn't replace when we put the motor together burst while driving one day, and a leaky power steering pump. Other than that, all has been as it should for the most part.

Will probably check the valve clearances out when the motor is pulled from the 89 to go in the 87, see if there has been any long term changes.

If you adjust them towards the tighter specification they will quiet down considerably.

A little loose but within specs is ok. If they get to loose it will start to wear the leading edge of the lobe.

I dont know if you have ever attempted to adjust "shim on bucket" style valves. But it can be challenging. Patience is key.

Friend of mine that built my head has been doing this stuff for years, kinda sad, even after swapping a couple shims around, I think my motor only had maybe 3 clearances within spec. Definitely a test of patience, turning cams the whole time if I understand the process correctly? I remember there being a lot of shim gauges slipped in an out of the thing, but it's been a while since I watched it.

JZ motors seem to be a bit noisy in regards to valve tick.. I've kinda stopped worrying about it until I install new cams.
