Iam thinking about throwing on a 1j intake manifold, so it will be front faced and not run over the engine, to clean things up in the engine bay, what are the major differences between the 7m intake and the 1j, they look pretty close, but im not sure, Any Input Anyone?

There's a lot of fabrication in this. To the best of my knowledge people have gone through the trouble in doing this with a 2j manifold. It is not worth it IMO. Your better off forkin over some cash for one made for a 7m or waiting for supra soprts.

1jz has been tried here and failed.
You pretty much have 3 options.

1: Have your 7M manifold modified for FFIM (looks like shit)
2: Have one custom made
3: Or wait for suprasports FFIM to be finished this spring/summer.

All options are not good if you are already pulling out the “cost too much card”. Typical supra owner (no offence to you). FFIM cost money and if you don’t want to spend 1K you better just stay with the OEM manifold and look at spending money elsewhere.

well as much as I love my mk3, the cost too much thing is my way of saying ahhh do I really wanna sink hard earned dough into a 20 year old car? IDK theres more important things I need and being a cop I don't make the gobs of money some people on here do.

To the OP they are right, wait for the supra sport one which will look good and be effecient and may cost but hell what doesn't cost a fortune for a car right.

have someone make you one is another option, my buddy had one made for him on his 2JZ NA-T swap into his mk3 and it looks great and was fairly cheap to do but thats because hes well networked and smart, you may meet more resistance or money cost on this option.

Good Luck

What is your fabrication skill??
can you weld aluminum?

Since I dont have a 7m or 1jz I cant really say for sure.

But if you can weld aluminum I would say to cut the runners off of your 7m and weld a plate onto it so it looks something like this

p1281225_1.jpg

then you could cut the 1j intake manifold along the bottom in a way that would let you weld it to the above piece.

OR if you can weld aluminum you could just make your own custom one like
I am currently making that FFIM for my 5mgte which NO ONE makes an intake manifold for.
I am much further along than that picture tho.

I have a 1JZ intake mani on my 7M and it seems to bolt up fairly well. Problem is that the 1J TB's butterfly opens the opposite way the 7M's does. So now it looks like there will be a TPS issue. I've posted on several forums hoping to find a way around this and have received no answers, so I guess nobody knows. I was looking into the 1UZ TB, but I can't figure out if it's a direct bolt-on to the 1J mani or if a flange will need to be welded on. Some also say they use the same TPS as the 7M and is plug and play, others say it needs to be hardwired.

1uz tb is NOT a direct bolt on. NO, 1uz is not plug and play. The 1uz tps settings are very close to the 7mgte settings. Is your tps on the 1j 89452-22080? If so, it is the same that a 2jzgte calls for, and has been sucessful @ re-calibrating to 7m settings. You will have to hard wire the 1j/2j tps connector, and the pins are reverse of what the 7m tps pins are.

Interesting. Unfortunetly, I don't have the the 11J's TPS. I was told it was the same as the 2J's though; not sure if that's true. However, according to this post it is: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55100&page=5

How do you go about "recalibrating" the TPS? Does the TB's butterfly still have to be flipped to open from top to bottom like the 7M's?

set it to the 7mgte tsrm specs. direction of the plate will not matter. That is only a concern if you were trying to use a 7m tps (rotates the opposite direction)

That sounds easy. It'd be awesome to be able to keep my setup and only have to purchase a different TPS. I just want to make sure it'll work.
According to the 2J mani conversion thread on the other forum (http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164466), it states in the first post that "the MKIV TPS puts out the wrong resistance for our injectors " and that " you can get the MKIV TPS and change out the resisntance being output by the TPS itself to match the 7M resistance. These resistance will go on right before the harness is attatched to the TPS (so in a sense in the middle of the TPS and the harness jack). "

Is this true? I know 2J's use high resistance injectors and 7M's use low resistance ones, but I didn't realize the TPS had anything to do with putting resistance to the injectors.

Can you shed some light on this for me bryan? Are you yourself using a 2J TPS? If so, have you experienced any issues?

Thanks.

Your options have pretty much been laid out. You just need to figure out if the price and object is worth it. It pretty much sounds you want to do it for looks. Is it worth it to you to spend that kind of money on looks, or do you have other reasons. Either way, I don't need justification, just putting the question in your mind.

it just sucks cuz im really not sure 1k is really worth it, for an intake mani. ya know?

No, I don't know what you mean. Perhaps you are driving the wrong car? I know they look great, but you have to decide if you want bang for the buck(look elsewhere) or a luxury GT.

You should have just stopped there. :biglaugh: Thanks for the softball.
