1JZ inspection...

I searched for this but didn't find anything, and I also posted this in the Regional Forum, and on SF but no luck. I would like to be as sure as possible about what I need to do before I buy the engine.

I'm getting a 1JZ for my mk3 and was wondering if it should pass inspection or not and what will need to be done to it if it doesn't? Or if anyone knows what I need to do to it before I get it inspected to make it pass that would be great. Or will I have to get it "inspected"?

How strict are they when they inspect? Do they check the motor for certain things? Call your local inspection station and ask them exactly what they look at and look for. Most inspectors won't know the motor isn't the USDM motor. So long as the motor looks like it belongs there, they won't look too closely I'd imagine. But the only way to know is to call.

In texas you might be OK. In California, the motor will come up as non-US conforming and the referee will shoot you down at that point.
