I know this is kinda out there but how hard would it be to put a 1jz into a mkiv. there is a mkvi near me that i am thinking about buying. Heres the catch. It is na and AT. I already have a 1jz w/ a 5spd that i am getting rdy for my mkiii but my mkiii has a lil bit more extensive work than jus droppin in the motor.

if you have jza70 brackets, it would be pretty easy. Put it in, wire the dash up (using a turbo tach also look into cutting the firewall instead of extending all the wires).. the hard part would be the transmission, with it not lining up right and the custom driveshaft thing. You should be able to use all the clutch fan components from the old motor and if you want to make it easier on yourself, run the auto instead of the r154, or you could 1.5jz it from the start using the NA block and a single.

one up the "1.5 jz from the start" that way your block is ready for the mk4 chassis.

i'm an r154 guy, but have heard good things about tt's with an auto...better accelleration in some cases. so if you can get over the fact that it would be an auto, stick with that trans to keep your original driveshaft (should hold up to a stock 1.5jz), and just find a 2jztt bellhousing if that would bold up to your NA auto trans...not sure bout that.

i would probably make the r154 work because i wouldn't be able to drive a tt without a clutch pedal!!

put it this way, the next transmission i get wont be a manual and wont be made by toyota (i need to burn through 2x r154s so i think it may be a while, enough to get that sweet turbo setup and save for the swap)
