I have my 1jz motor out of the car and was wandering if I should use the hydro water pump with out the fan till it dies or should I just put the 2jzgte pump on that I have sitting in the box.

If I should use the hydro pump what should I do with the lines that are supposed to run to the fan?

^Agree'd, i kept mine and ended up replacing it, it wasn't bad but if you can do it now just get it over with. Its not like you can source out a new pump to keep it functioning properly and if you do its 500+$

Electrical connections (Don't plug them, but don't just cut them and leave them hanging some are power wires)

Hydro lines, remove and throw away, same with cooler (sell it if you have or use it for power steering pump).

If you have stock crank pulley, replace that too it'll eventually go and it would suck to have that thing flying thru the rad. Or if you get lucky like i did it'll just fall when you do a u-turn.

If you go with an ATI Damper use this fan setup LS400 Clutch - 7MGTE Blade (Make sure blade is new) Used blades are "stretched and came close to my Koyo rad. (Will work with Aftermarket rad on MKIII Body)

If you have stock pulley use the 2JZ Fan clutch & Fan blade. WILL NOT WORK with ATI unit

You are asking if you can still use the hyd waterpump and not use the fan with it? No you can not. If you run the fan with no hyd fluid it will burn the bearings in the pump very quickly, besides the fact of running with no fan isn't the way to go. Just go with the 2J pump and 7M fan with LS400 clutch.

Since you already have the 2J one, go with that. If you did not have those pieces available and needed to finish the swap and the Hydro wiring/reservoir/cooler was in place, I'd say run it 'til it dies. I have the 2J mechanical setup, but the hydro fan REALLY moves some air and you wouldn't have to immediately mess with the space behind the radiator.

Remember, doing things to the engine tend to be easier when said engine is out of the car... Unless you don't mind pulling the motor out on occasion, I say swap it now if you have all the needed components to replace the fan.

Too bad Toyota didn't still sell hydrofans...

I got rid of mine.. mech pump is cheaper/easier/lighter/and nearly just as effective.

plus, the components on the hydro can break and spew fluid all over the engine bay (old age). I've actually seen it happen multiple times..

im running the mech fan with the stock rad and i have yet to see my coolant temps go over 190 degrees and thats in AZ heat too. so i would say the mech fan is very effective
