to all of the 1jz-gte people out there, i got some simple questions. i have a 91 toyota supra turbo and im going to do a 1jz-gte sawp next summer. i wanted to know what suggestions you guys have on what parts would be a good idea to change before the actual installation of engines. i know for a fact that it would be a good idea to change the timing but should i go ahead and do a couple of more mods while the block siutting on the ground? my horsepower goal is a little over 500 but slowly. any simple mods? thanks and sorry if i messed up writing somewhere.

Five hundred horsepower is a pretty tall order. I"m sure you can do it, but it's going to take time and money. I'm doing my swap right now, well I'm actually waiting on parts right now. I bought a new racing radiator, intercooler and pipes, new turbo for a single setup, new gasket set, ets. I bought a clip from www.driftmotion.com and I suggest you do the same. Their over the phone help is hard to beat at any price. Aaron has helped me out more than you could imagine. They really know what their doing over there. Good luck with your project..........lol

thanks for the info. actually, i had talked to moe and he said venus engines in sacramento is a pretty good spot. so any extra non-aftermarket parts needed for the swap?

I wouldn't buy my clip from anyone but driftmotion, but you do what you want. I am speaking only from my experience and what I have read. No one has a better reputation than Driftmotion. They are very honest and helpful. I have called Aaron on numerous occasions and he actually answers the phone instead of making me leave a voice mail.

As far as aftermarket stuff goes. I was told to buy a new Koyo racing radiator because the ones in the clip aren't very safe after all of the shipping and handling it has went through. I think you will need a MKIV throttle cable, and some new powersteering hoses and some other stuff. Look through this site right here and it will answer most of your questions. Good luck.

ask away The Thread that suprahero gave you is mine. there are allot of questions answered in it.

there are people that have done 500RWHP + 1JZ's but it will take some cash. if you plan to do it all at once then yes there are item on the eninge you could change right away.

My setup which is almost running now is just stock except for the Ehaust and intake. So i don't know eveything.

Some Obvious things to me would be Gaskets, Injectors, Turbo and/or turbo's, Fuel delivery/management, Boost Control, ten to one easier to go stand alone for the ECU. if you have a R154 i have heard you should still be ok with 500HP, upgraded clutch, flywheel, intercooler, Ic piping, BOV, Fuel presure Regulator, Upgraded CAMS, Cam Pulleys.

Personally i would change out what ever hardware i could ARP all around, maybe go with a HKS MHG.

Obviously there are many ways to get to 500HP

ive already got an hks boost contoller, turbo timer, fuel cut defenser, fuel computer, hks intercooler, and thats about it. i was think about getting hks pulleys, fidanza flywheel, new spark plugs, new wires, new timing belt, and act street clutch while doing the swap. what do you think?

You don't need plug wires for a 1jz. They run individual coils.
YOUr fcd will only work if it is a universal one.

Well the Pulleys are always good for moving your power band around, a light weight flywheel is good. Some peole dont like the fidanza' though, there are a few different ones availible for the 1J, new plugs is a must, Get a Greddy Timing Belt. You might want to look at some HKS Cams, this is said to be one of the biggest differences for the 1J Suprahero got some 264 small core cams. Help keep stock idle. i only say HKS sine it seems you have a theme going :)

I dont know to much on the different clutches though.

If you want an idea for the 500HP Becauseican is selling his Twin Garret GT28r Setup.

I ended up with Crower 272 smallcore cams. They didn't offer any 264's. These are suppose to keep close to stock idle though. I will let you know hopefully in a month...............lol

That's what I run. It made my idle a little lumpy, but not bad at all. Had to richen up a little from 1-2k to help it out of boost, but other then that, they work beautifully. And yes, cams on a 1JZ do wonders. You will be amazed how differently the car performs, even on stock twins. Do you have something to adjust your rev limiter? You will be bouncing off 7k the whole time wishing you could go higher :) (I rev to 7500, you can rev stockers pretty much to 8k on these cams and not lose power) Stock cams are designed for low-end response. That's why you have such great drivability, and smooth boost response. That's also why power really drops around 6300. A bigger set of cams will give you more of a on/off felling in regards to boost, but will also give you TONS more power higher up.

I don't think 500whp on a 1JZ is that tall of an order, fuel mods, fuel management, intercooler, that's more or less it. Internally, the whole engine is fine for 500hp.

Back to the original post, change your front and rear seals before you get the engine in the car. You mentioned timing belt, yes, do that too. I would also suggest changing out the clutch. While it's not hard to change the clutch on these cars anyways, it's still a little easier to do with the engine out.

yes i agree with annoboyingr clutch, timing belt, front and rear main seals, radiator, and i would say decide weather you want to keep your hydro fan or you want electric fans, and if you go electric you would also want to change your water pump to a 2jz one. i strongly recommend changing those parts too because you will endup changing them out later on most likely. speaking from what i've seen and learned.
